Working Title: Career Advisor – Culpeper County Schools
Pay range: $63,136 – $94,703
Location: Culpeper, VA
Work schedule: Monday‑Friday, 8:00 am–4:30 pm (or as scheduled)
The Career Advisor is embedded in Culpeper County Public High Schools (Culpeper County High School and Eastern View High School) and the Career and Technical Education Center (CTE) to assist students with post‑secondary career and educational planning. The Advisor works with high‑school students, parents, staff members, and community members to ensure students graduate with an academic and career plan and take appropriate steps to implement it. During the summer, the Advisor will also guide students enrolling at Germanna Community College.
Major Duties and Responsibilities
Implement outreach and career psychoeducational counseling activities at both high schools and the CTE Center
Maintain strategic relationships with high schools, CTE Center, and college staff and services
Maintain a case management system for recording and reporting on services
Promote career counseling and advising services to high school students, parents, school personnel, employers, and the community
Provide wrap‑around services in the summer to help students transition from high school to post‑secondary education
Coordinate FAFSA completion events and assist students individually with FAFSA completion
Participate in professional development activities
Qualifications
Experience providing career counseling to assist individuals in determining career and professional goals
Knowledge and experience in career counseling and educational pathway planning
Experience using career exploration and assessment tools in the counseling process
Ability to understand and interpret career assessments, test scores, college policies, and academic placement procedures
Excellent public speaking, written communication, and interpersonal skills
Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team
Ability to problem‑solve in a fast‑paced environment with a large student population
Ability to travel to area high schools to perform duties
Ability to handle confidential information appropriately
Ability to counsel and assist students with career and academic decision making
Ability to collaborate effectively with parents/guardians, school personnel, community representatives, and employers
Ability to maintain accurate and timely record‑keeping and reporting
Additional Considerations
Experience in community college/higher education setting
Experience working with human growth and development theory and practice as they relate to adolescents and high school‑age students
Experience in college counseling, academic assessment, and career pathway planning
Extensive computer experience with word processing, spreadsheet, and database tools
Extensive customer service experience with the ability to handle stressful situations
Experience using a Student Information System
Bilingual in Spanish
Travel between campuses may be required.
