Post-Doctoral Associate – Peanut Genetics & Breeding
Location: Tifton, Georgia

Position Summary
The Ozias‑Akins Biotechnology Lab seeks a creative, motivated and skilled postdoc to participate in peanut genetics and breeding projects with an emphasis on reducing aflatoxin contamination. The successful candidate will explore genetic mechanisms of resistance to Aspergillus infection and aflatoxin contamination through population development, genotyping, and phenotypic characterization in the laboratory, greenhouse, and field. Validation and translation of candidate gene discoveries through selection or modification will be conducted.

Duties and Responsibilities

Assist with lab maintenance and chores: wash glassware, supplies, prepare basic solutions, media, take away trash, etc. (5%)

Conduct research in the lab (30%)

Conduct research in the greenhouse (15%)

Collect and analyze data (20%)

Field work (10%)

Writing and reporting of research (5%)

Present results to the scientific community and for publication (5%)

Supervision of student worker, undergraduate students and technicians that assist with research (5%)

Other duties assigned (5%)

Required Qualifications

PhD in plant biology, genetics, or a breeding‑related field.

Molecular and cellular biology knowledge and skills.

Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Proven publication record.

Experience with bioinformatics.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with breeding, genetic mapping, and molecular genetics including computational expertise.

Knowledge of and/or experience with plant and bacterial genetic engineering including gene editing.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Competencies

Work independently, as well as an integral member of a team.

Experience with breeding, genetic mapping, and molecular genetics including computational expertise is required.

Knowledge of and/or experience with plant and bacterial genetic engineering including gene editing is preferred.

Physical Demands
Standing, lifting up to 30 lbs, enduring outside and/or inside elements for extended periods of time, traveling to/from multiple locations as needed. Driving may be required.
