Coordinator Medical Assistant – 40 Hours Day Shift

General Summary
Oversees the daily functioning of an outpatient clinic to ensure efficient operation. Provides for effective scheduling of patient appointments; controls medical and office supplies and ensures continuity of care and methods through the scheduling of responsible personnel.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

Schedules staff and daily work assignments.

Plans work and vacation schedules; implements improvements to existing system.

Conducts daily huddles to facilitate smooth clinical operations with physicians and MA team to include acute patient appointments.

Controls medical and office supplies by ordering, receiving and proper storing.

Insures smooth communication between medical staff and responsible personnel.

Communicate to patients or parents the physician’s medical instructions.

Acts as a coordinator between physicians and other departments to ensure all test results are available upon patient’s arrival.

Addresses patient complaints regarding time delays, appointment scheduling, and lack of professional care; works closely leadership regarding threatened litigation.

Performs patient care functions such as vision and hearing screening, administering immunizations, recording vital signs, taking height and weight, and charting of other functions related to clinic specialty.

Maintains regulatory standards (i.e. Joint Commission, Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services, Environment of Care, Regulatory Readiness, Medication Review, Hand Hygiene and other system compliance efforts).

Assists in the selection, orientation, and training of new staff; and may provide input into performance appraisals.

Conducts regular staff meetings, to include the review of Press Ganey scores and other quality scores.

Performs other job duties as required.

Education / Experience Required

Graduate from a Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) or Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES) Medical Assistant Program or graduate of a formal medical assistant program with a minimum of five years continuous work as Medical Assistant with verifiable clinical experience.

Completion of a clinical externship.

Two (2) years of experience as a Medical Assistant.

Ability to perform a wide variety of clinical skills as related to ambulatory patient care. Basic computer knowledge and keyboarding skills. Successful completion of Henry Ford Medical Group (HFMG) pharmacology class and test.

Certifications / Licenses Required

Current BLS‑C certificate.

One of the following is required. Failure to retain certification/registration will result in termination from employment with HFHS.

Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) eligible for Certification by the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA) or

Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) from the American Medical Technologist organization (AMT) or

Certification by the National Healthcare Association (NHA), Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA), or

Certification from the National Center for Competency Testing (CCT), National Certified Medical Assistant (NCMA).
