Family Health Centers at NYU Langone, a designated Level 3 Medical Home, is the largest federally qualified health center network in New York State, and the second largest in the nation. The opportunity is to join our team as a Ultrasound Technologist - Per Diem (Pediatric and Adult Echo).
Responsibilities
Use Doppler technology to aid in assessing patients pre-operatively and post-operatively related to acquired and congenital heart disease in the pediatric population.
Perform other related duties as required, such as performing adult echocardiography if available when needed in Echo Department.
Be competent to care for patients based upon the age groups treated and use independent judgment in performing echocardiogram examinations.
Train and orientate new personnel; consult with supervisor or physician when in doubt.
Assist in specialized procedures on patients such as pericardiocentesis and localization of catheter for balloon septostomy.
Explain the procedure to the patient (parents), record medical history considered necessary, and prepare patients for testing.
Assist the physician with patient care and present preliminary findings to physician for final approval.
Maintain logs of ultrasound test findings; record files and edit results of echocardiogram and enter into Merge Cardiology Information System.
Judge if images are satisfactory for diagnostic purposes.
Minimum Qualifications
High School diploma or GED equivalent.
Graduate of a CAAHEP-accredited Cardiovascular Technology Program.
Registry in Diagnostic Medical Sonography (RDCS) or Cardiovascular Credentialing International (RCS) must be obtained within 1 year of hire.
Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification through the American Heart Association required at time of hire and must be maintained.
Required Licenses
Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI) or equivalent required; Licensure as a Cardiovascular Sonographer per required credentialing.
Preferred Qualifications
RDCS or RCS credentials; RDCS (PE) preferred.
Two years of experience in pediatric echocardiography required.
Experience working with children.
Qualified candidates must be able to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization.
