A DSP uses person-centered thinking and approaches to provide daily support to people in decision-making, community integration, and in obtaining paid employment. The Senior DSP assists the Habilitation Specialist or Supervisor in managing the daily operations of their assigned sites, meeting program goals, and overseeing programmatic quality.

Essential Functions

Ensure person-centered surveys are completed monthly with the people we support, compile results, and share them with the team for program planning.

In conjunction with the Supervisor, develop site and staff schedules based on the people we support’s interests, goals, support needs, services, and staff coverage.

Ensure all team members (including DSPs and interns) are following program schedules and are at their assigned sites/activities. Make daily changes to schedule and coverage as needed and notify team members of new assignments.

If team members are not receptive to assignments or discussions, the Senior DSP is responsible for promptly notifying the Supervisor and following the chain of command to address issues that arise.

Act as point person for groups that are meeting in community sites. DSPs will check in with Senior DSPs when arriving at community sites. The Senior DSP will keep the Supervisor informed on the status of all community sites daily and notify immediately if any issues arise. If the Supervisor is not available, the Senior DSP will follow the chain of command.

Ensure team members document services and time and attendance by COB in the EHR, per funding source regulations (i.e. Medicaid and DQA). This includes verifying the correct number of services/units of time entered in EHR and that confirmation is sent to QA by COB.

Ensure corrections identified by QA are made contemporaneously within the timeframe provided by QA.

Assist the Supervisor in ensuring services are delivered as designed in Staff Action Plans so that the people we support receive seamless service provision throughout the day.

When the Supervisor is not onsite, the Senior DSP will ensure the team follows the chain of command for daily operations and in emergencies.

Work with the Supervisor, team, and Community Development Specialist to identify person-centered monthly vocational and activity goals, submit the Monthly Goal Sheet, and attend the monthly Goals meeting. The Senior DSP will follow CDS protocols and maintain ongoing communication to develop person-centered goals.

Maintain regular contact with volunteer sites (e.g., site cancellations) and update the Volunteer Site list quarterly or as changes arise.

Ensure compliance with DOL regulations regarding volunteering/interning in the community by checking weekly that each person’s volunteer hours have been entered into the EHR and that the total per site is being tracked. Coordinate with QA and address with team members if hours are not entered correctly or promptly.

Collect and record performance data from internship, volunteer, and community sites.

Report all incidents as mandated by OPWDD and NYS Regulations.

Maintain updated Monthly Fire Drill logs at each hub site.

Work with the Office Manager to order supplies for each site, maintaining an inventory of office supplies and participant supplies.

Use D365 to submit requisitions, check requests, petty cash, client reimbursements, phone reimbursements, and other necessary requisitions.

Be responsible for metro card distribution, logs, and reconciliation. Submit requests promptly and maintain enough metro cards onsite to support at least two weeks of community scheduling. In the absence of the Supervisor, pick up metro cards at HQ.

Maintain balanced petty cash, reconcile petty cash and receipts at least monthly, and keep enough petty cash on site to support two weeks of scheduled activities at all times.
