Schedule
Full‑time permanent, 40 hours per week. Monday–Thursday 7:30 am–4:30 pm; Friday 7:30 am–1:00 pm.

Position Summary
The Dental Hygienist works within the UNC Henson Special Care & Geriatric clinic, providing education, assessment, research, administrative, diagnostic, preventive, and therapeutic services that support overall health. The role involves partnership with dentists and other care team members to deliver optimum oral health care to physically, medically, or cognitively complex patients, including those who are frail, elderly, or require special restraints or mobility support.

Responsibilities

Provide education, assessment, research, administrative, diagnostic, preventive, and therapeutic oral health services.

Perform patient care in wheelchairs or stretchers and apply proper restraint techniques.

Collaborate with dentists and the interdisciplinary care team to ensure comprehensive patient care.

Support the Department of Special Care & Geriatrics and UNC Health in clinical, education, and research activities.

Qualifications

Licensed to practice as a Dental Hygienist in the State of North Carolina.

Previous experience in dental hygiene working with frail, cognitively or developmentally delayed patients, and medically complex individuals across the lifespan.

Competent in patient restraint techniques and in providing care to patients in wheelchairs or stretchers.

Sign‑on Bonus
Eligible for a $3,000 sign‑on bonus paid in two installments ($1,500 within 30 days of hire date and $1,500 12 months after hire date). Eligibility requirements: the applicant must not have worked in a probationary, permanent, or time‑limited appointment within the last 12 months as an employee in North Carolina state government (including the judicial system, state executive branch agencies, and the university system). The new hire must be a permanent full‑time or permanent part‑time (more than 20 hours per week) employee.
