Overview
We are seeking a Behavioral Health Outpatient Director to join our team of medical and mental health professionals at the Julia Tutwiler Correctional Facility. The Director will work alongside correctional officers and other professionals to ensure regulatory compliance, manage budgets, supervise multidisciplinary clinical staff, develop community partnerships, and deliver high‑quality, patient‑centered care.
Responsibilities
Define department goals, develop policies, and oversee daily operations to improve mental health services.
Oversee treatment services, ensuring adherence to evidence‑based practices and high standards of care.
Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local laws and accreditation standards; investigate critical incidents and manage risks.
Direct recruitment, hiring, training, and performance evaluation of clinical staff (social workers, counselors, therapists).
Prepare, manage, and oversee the department budget and ensure financial viability.
Collaborate with medical, mental health, and correctional staff to enhance quality patient care while maintaining a safe and secure work environment.
Monitor compliance with site‑specific and company policies and procedures, taking appropriate corrective action, and ensuring compliance with ACA, NCCHC standards.
Qualifications
A master’s degree in social work, counseling, psychology, or a related field.
Active, unrestricted licensure as an LCSW, LCMHC, LMFT, LMHP, LISW, or equivalent in Alabama.
Active BLS CPR certification (American Heart Association preferred).
Minimum of 5+ years of progressive experience in behavioral health, including clinical and administrative leadership in a mental health or acute care setting; correctional healthcare experience preferred.
Strong leadership, budgetary analysis, interpersonal, and communication skills.
Effective communication skills for building patient rapport and relaying information and treatment plans with other medical and mental health professionals.
Strong organizational skills to track patient treatment plans and progress notes.
Ability to maintain confidentiality of proprietary information and adhere to a code of conduct and all facility correctional healthcare policies, procedures, and legal requirements.
Must pass the facility’s criminal background check and drug screening.
