6:00 AM – 4:30 PM – Monday, Wednesday, Thursday
6:00 AM – 1:00 PM – Tuesday
6:00 AM – 9:00 AM – Friday

The employee must be comfortable working alone and performing hard sticks. The location schedule requires visiting two to three different locations, including the Petersburg PSC.
Locations include:
Poplar Springs Hospital – 6:00 AM to 9:00 AM (Monday–Friday)
Doctor’s office – 6:00 AM onwards (Monday, Wednesday, Thursday) at Petersburg VA 23805
Summary
The main function of a phlebotomist is to assist in performing various assigned duties, troubleshoot, train, and make workflow recommendations.
Position Responsibilities
Experience performing blood draws, labeling specimens, centrifuging specimens, recording maintenance data, decontamination, updating patient information.
Collect and store specimens according to established procedures.
Explain the venipuncture or other specimen collection process clearly and courteously.
Demonstrate technique using straight or butterfly needles.
Fully understand all physician orders.
Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes, label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required.
Check all test requisitions or computer labels against orders to ensure 100% accuracy.
Package specimens for transport.
Store specimen samples at required temperatures in appropriate containers, accurately label, and follow protocols to maintain specimen integrity.
Understand and comply with OSHA and DEP regulations.
Attend annual department trainings.
Answer telephone calls and review laboratory results to satisfy inquiries.
Minimum Qualifications
Valid Phlebotomy certification for the state of employment.
Minimum of 6 months’ work experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
High School Diploma or GED.
