
Dental Assistant- Sign On Bonus Eligible

General Position Summary
The Dental Assistant assists the Director of Dentistry, Staff Dentist, and Dental Hygienist in the care and treatment of patients, filing patient charts, updating records, and performing administrative functions at Johnson Health Center (JHC).
Patient/Customer Relations
Provide patient education on dental disease and preventative home care, including brushing and flossing techniques, and serves as liaison to patients in telephone communications of medical/dental issues.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Assists the Dentist and Dental Hygienist in chairside duties, including seating the patient and providing instrumentation and materials.
Assists in preparing dental patients for treatment: updating medical/dental history, recording vital signs, preparing instrumentation/materials.
Assists the dentist or hygienist in examinations and treatments, providing patient education during treatment.
Performs direct patient care: obtains diagnostic digital X‑rays (bitewings, periapical, panorex), performs prophylaxis, applies fluoride, sealants, anesthesia, removes sutures.
Provides post‑operative instructions and dismisses patients after treatment.
Assists in medical or dental emergencies as needed.
Manages instruments: removes after procedures, cleans, prepares for sterilization and autoclaving; maintains water levels and runs sterilization cycle.
Maintains operatories and equipment cleanliness per OSHA standards; cleans suction lines, traps, neutralizes autoclaves monthly; pulls trash twice weekly.
Orders supplies, keeps operatories stocked, and restores after each procedure.
Supports front‑desk duties: answers phones, schedules appointments, receives payment when available.
Participates in school dental program: preparation, implementation, assistance.
Attends staff meetings and participates in JHC QI program.
Attends mandatory OSHA infection control seminars and follows universal precautions.
Staff Relations / Team Building
Consults with dentist and healthcare team as necessary, facilitating communication among clinical and non‑clinical staff.
Administrative Duties
Performs limited administrative functions involving treatment notes and charting for patient records.
Assists front office procedures (checking in patients, receiving payments, scheduling appointments) in the absence of the Patient Assistance Specialist.
Co‑ordinates with the school program and marketing, collects data as determined by JHC.
Competencies
Works independently as a team member in a fast‑paced environment.
Operates office equipment (computer, copier, fax). Demonstrates proficiency with relevant computer programs.
Communicates effectively with staff and patients, and multitasks with varied duties.
Physical Demands and Working Environment
Fast‑paced office setting with occasional travel to other offices. Lifts/exerts force up to 35 pounds occasionally; requires speaking, sitting, bending, walking, standing, hearing, stooping, kneeling, repetitive motion. Classified as OSHA high‑risk position.
