Overview
Johnson County Mental Health Center is seeking a Crisis Call Specialist for its 988 Crisis Team. The team provides 24/7 mental health crisis services via phone, with a mission to prevent suicide, divert individuals from hospitals and law enforcement, and connect them to needed resources. The team is co‑located in Johnson County’s Communication Center with 911 dispatch services and works closely with first responders.
Schedule & Pay
Shift: 7:30 pm–7:30 am on a 2‑week rotating schedule.
Week 1: Sunday, Monday, Friday, Saturday.
Week 2: Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday.
Hourly Pay: $26.19 – $35.43 per hour.
Shift differential: overnight $1.50 /hr, weekend $0.75 /hr, evening $0.75 /hr.
Responsibilities
Answer 24‑hour crisis calls, chats, and texts, providing empathic and compassionate support.
Triage suicide risk and other safety concerns, assess needs, recommend least restrictive level of care, and coordinate care with Johnson County, law enforcement, hospitals, and community agencies.
Conduct outreach calls to individuals identified as needing support.
Develop safety plans and collaborate with JCMHC teams and partner agencies to advocate for individuals’ needs.
Oversee acquisition and forwarding of necessary documentation for individuals requiring voluntary or involuntary hospitalization.
Complete and submit documentation and assist with data collection to support program goals.
Job Requirements
Minimum Job Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Human Services or related field.
May require a KS/MO driver’s license, depending on department or agency.
Background Screening
Johnson County Government requires reference/background screening for all positions. Specified criteria may vary by Department/Agency.
Preferred Job Requirements
One year of related work experience.
Education/Experience Substitutions
Experience may be substituted for degree; education may be substituted for experience.
In some instances, statutory or regulatory requirements may prohibit substitution of education and/or experience.
Physical, Environmental, and Special Working Conditions
All County employees may be called upon to assist other departments in a declared emergency situation.
