
Automotive Body Repairer

THE POSITION
Department of Transportation, Engineering District 9-7 in Somerset County, is seeking a talented and dedicated Automotive Body Repairer to join its team full‑time.

You will diagnose and repair vehicle body damage, refinish surfaces, and ensure that all work meets strict safety and quality standards. Your expertise will directly support the maintenance and performance of the vehicles and equipment that keep Somerset County’s transportation network operating smoothly.
DESCRIPTION OF WORK
Provide skilled automotive body repair services that help keep PennDOT’s fleet safe, reliable, and ready to support critical transportation operations. Restore vehicles and equipment to high standards, extend their service life, and maintain the quality of the Commonwealth’s transportation network.
Key Responsibilities
Deliver expert repair services for department vehicles and equipment, ensuring all body parts and glass are restored and refinished to extend their useful life.
Address rusted or damaged automotive components using techniques such as welding, brazing, soldering, and applying epoxy or fiberglass.
Evaluate whether components such as doors, fenders, and panels should be repaired or replaced, and perform partial or full replacements as needed.
Replace broken windshields, side glass, and rear glass to maintain vehicle safety and functionality.
Repair or replace damaged interior components, including seats, flooring, and other interior elements.
Mix paints to match existing vehicle colors and apply finishes using a spray gun; clean and maintain all painting tools and equipment.
Collaborate with supervisors, coworkers, and storeroom personnel to recommend ordering specialized parts and materials.
Maintain accurate daily documentation of work performed, equipment serviced, time spent, and parts used to ensure proper recordkeeping.
Work Schedule and Additional Information
Full‑time employment
Shift hours and days vary due to seasonal requirements, with a 30‑minute lunch
This position will require travel and overtime as needed.
Telework: Not available
Salary may be non‑negotiable in some cases.
Required Experience, Training & Eligibility
QUALIFICATIONS
Two years of semi‑skilled experience in automotive body repair and painting in a commercial operation; or
Completion of a high school vocational‑technical program in automotive body repair from an accredited vocational trade school; or
Completion of a post‑secondary curriculum in automotive body repair from an accredited technical school.
Special Requirements
Active motor vehicle license.
Active CFC‑12 Refrigerant Recycling Certificate or 134A Refrigerant Recycling Certificate at the time of hire or within the probationary period.
Additional Requirements
Must be able to perform essential job functions.
