Salary: $65,052 - $69,693 annually.
Overview
PAGNY for the Division of Correctional Health Services (CHS) of New York City Health + Hospitals (H+H) is responsible for delivery of medical care, mental health care, and discharge planning in the jail system. Approximately 25% of new admissions per year to the NYC jail system will receive care on the mental health service. The service strives to provide safe, holistic and evidence‑based therapeutic interventions for the diverse range of mental health issues that face the population.
Responsibilities
Provides basic bedside care
Maintains a comfortable, orderly, safe and clean environment for patients
Measures and records patients vital signs (height, weight, temperature, blood pressure, pulse, respiration)
Assists with bathing, dressing and personal hygiene
Prepares and gives injections and enemas
Monitors catheters
Records food and fluid input/output
Dresses wounds
Assists with bed positioning, standing and walking
Collects blood and/or urine samples for testing
Performs routine laboratory tests as directed by supervisor
Prepares and administers medications orally, subcutaneously, or through an IV and records the prescriptions
Reports adverse reactions to medications or treatments in accordance with policy
Assists in patient health teaching
Records all care information concisely, accurately and completely in a timely manner in the appropriate format and on the appropriate forms or templates
Performs other position‑related duties as assigned, depending on assignment setting
Additional Clinical Duties (depending on setting)
Starts intravenous fluids
Directs care provided by nursing aides
Floats among various clinical services, where qualified
Other Responsibilities
Upholds HIPAA regulations
Punctual and dependable for assigned shifts
Human Relation Skills
Assists other employees when needed
Cooperates with supervisors, colleagues, patients, visitors, and Department of Correction personnel
Maintains a friendly working atmosphere
Maintains professional attitude and appearance, adhering to uniform policy
Accepts constructive criticism and makes appropriate changes in behavior
Utilizes established communication channels
Respects individuals and recognizes personal limits, seeking assistance when needed
Meets attendance standards per policy
Working Conditions
Because patients require round‑the‑clock care, working hours include days, nights, weekends and holidays. LPNs are required to stand for long periods and may face hazards from chemical and infectious disease exposure. Patients may be confused, irrational, agitated, or uncooperative.
Physical Demands
Ability to lift 50 pounds; moving, lifting or transferring patients may involve up to 100 pounds
Ability to stand for extended periods

Visual acuity
Qualifications
Accredited high school diploma or GED required
Graduate of an accredited LPN program
Current LPN license in good standing with the State Licensing Board
Minimum of one year LPN experience preferred
Basic Life Support (BCLS) Certificate
Infection Control Certificate
