Senior Phlebotomist

Responsibilities
Under the general supervision of the Phlebotomy Coordinator, the Sr. Phlebotomist performs venipunctures, capillary blood specimen collections, point‑of‑care testing (POCT), and related procedures according to hospital policies and regulations. The Sr. Phlebotomist assists in training phlebotomy students and new employees, supports a culture of Service Excellence, and helps integrate the Department of Laboratory Services into the broader Northwest Texas Healthcare System.

Job Duties

Perform phlebotomy procedures in assigned areas of the laboratory, clinics, outreach facilities, health fairs, and home‑bound patient locations, ensuring efficiency and quality of pre‑analytical, analytical, and post‑analytical processes.

Adhere to accepted standards of practice as outlined by the College of American Pathologists (CAP), CLIA ’88, and other regulatory agencies.

Participate in and support continuous improvement initiatives to measure, assess, and enhance performance in assigned responsibilities.

Qualifications

Minimum education: High school diploma or equivalent required; completion of a phlebotomy program preferred; two years of college education preferred.

Minimum work experience: Three years of full‑time experience.

Certifications: PBT (ASCP) required; Sr. Phlebotomist certificate from a phlebotomy program preferred.

BLS certification upon hire and maintained throughout employment.
