Position
Senior Phlebotomist
Responsibilities
Under the general supervision of the Phlebotomy Coordinator, the Sr. Phlebotomist performs venipunctures, capillary blood specimen collections, point‑of‑care testing (POCT), and related procedures according to hospital policies and regulations. The Sr. Phlebotomist assists in training phlebotomy students and new employees, supports a culture of Service Excellence, and helps integrate the Department of Laboratory Services into the broader Northwest Texas Healthcare System.
Job Duties
Perform phlebotomy procedures in assigned areas of the laboratory, clinics, outreach facilities, health fairs, and home‑bound patient locations, ensuring efficiency and quality of pre‑analytical, analytical, and post‑analytical processes.
Adhere to accepted standards of practice as outlined by the College of American Pathologists (CAP), CLIA ’88, and other regulatory agencies.
Participate in and support continuous improvement initiatives to measure, assess, and enhance performance in assigned responsibilities.

Qualifications
Minimum education: High school diploma or equivalent required; completion of a phlebotomy program preferred; two years of college education preferred.
Minimum work experience: Three years of full‑time experience.
Certifications: PBT (ASCP) required; Sr. Phlebotomist certificate from a phlebotomy program preferred.
BLS certification upon hire and maintained throughout employment.
Physical and Sensory Requirements
Ability to read, write, and converse in English.
Ability to follow instructions, reason, and make appropriate judgments.
Ability to perform computer functions accurately and quickly.
Ability to perceive pertinent details in pictorial or graphic material.
Ability to perceive pertinent details from verbal and tabular material.
Ability to coordinate eyes, hands, and fingers for skillful, accurate, and precise movements.
Ability to communicate with patients, family members, staff, and physicians.
Ability to evaluate and interpret information and make independent decisions.
Ability to cope with and remain calm under stress.
Ability to speak and hear for effective discussions.
Ability to identify similarities and differences in color.
Ability to understand and troubleshoot moderate and complex instrumentation technology.
Ability to perform mathematical operations quickly and accurately.
Ability to understand and explain the theories of laboratory specimen processing.
Ability to multi‑task productively and accurately.
Ability to remain focused on job responsibilities.
