Adjunct Non-Credit Phlebotomy Technician Instructor, Continuing Education Division
Massasoit Community College is a community college located in Brockton, Massachusetts, with satellite campuses in Canton and Middleborough.

Job Description: Adjunct Non-Credit Phlebotomy Technician Instructors are hired on a part‑time, as‑needed basis each semester. The instructor will prepare and deliver didactic and laboratory instruction that meets national Phlebotomy Technician certification standards. The instructor will work with the Continuing Education Division team to ensure compliance with regulatory and college administrative policies.

Essential Functions

Demonstrate and provide instruction in the role of a phlebotomist, medical terminology, anatomy and physiology of body systems with an emphasis on the circulatory system, components of blood and blood collection procedures, pre‑analytical specimen processing, assembling equipment and blood collection devices, infection control, standard/universal precautions and safety in disposal of biohazardous materials, phlebotomy practice clerical duties, and real‑world clinical scenarios for phlebotomy skills.

Maintain a safe and inclusive learning environment in classroom and clinical lab settings following best practices and industry standards.

Supervise all students in hands‑on laboratory work ensuring best practices and safety guidelines are met.

Clearly communicate the importance of HIPAA compliance to students, integrating legal, ethical, and professional responsibilities into instruction.

Assess student progress, support development of academic and professional skills, and assist students with setting goals.

Monitor email communications from students and respond in a timely manner when appropriate.

Ensure classes meet for the allotted time on every scheduled meeting day during the semester.

Provide timely and consistent feedback to students.

Maintain accurate student records of attendance, participation, and grades.

Meet all deadlines for grade submission to the Registrar’s Office, student participation reports, and other administrative documentation.

Work collaboratively with Division staff and participate in required HR and IT services trainings, instructor orientations, and periodic check‑in meetings.

Requirements

High school diploma or GED.

Minimum three (3) years of clinical experience performing phlebotomy in an accredited healthcare setting.

Minimum two (2) years of experience teaching adult students from diverse backgrounds or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

Knowledge of nationally recognized phlebotomy technician standards and ability to adapt curricula to state requirements and local needs.

Demonstrated teaching and facilitation skills, competency‑based education principles, and ability to assess performance and provide feedback.

Ability to foster critical thinking and problem solving among students.

Familiarity with learning management systems and remote learning technology.

Proven technological proficiency, including Microsoft Office 365.

Preferred

Earned associate’s degree or higher in a healthcare or allied health discipline from an accredited institution.

Experience integrating technology into teaching, including online and blended learning.

Multilingual fluency in Spanish, French, Portuguese, French Creole, or Cape Verdean Creole.

Demonstrated understanding of the community college mission with a focus on diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.

Additional Information
Position Status: Part‑time, non‑benefitted; instructors are hired on an as needed basis each semester.

Supervisor: Associate Dean, Community Education.

Semester: Spring and Summer 2026.

Hours: Designated weekday evenings (5:30 p.m. – 9:00 p.m.) or weekends; not to exceed 18 hours per week.

Salary: $40.00 per hour.

Worksite: Brockton, Canton, or Middleborough campuses (in‑person classes only). Assignments will include all Massasoit sites and additional locations as necessary.
