Adjunct Non-Credit Certified Nurse Assistant/Home Health Aide (CNA/HHA) Instructor, Continuing Ed.

Job Description:

Primary Objective:

Adjunct Non-Credit Certified Nurse Assistant/Home Health Aide (CNA/HHA) instructors are hired as part time instructors to provide instruction for CNA/HHA courses on an as needed basis and based upon sufficient course enrollment. The CNA/HHA instructor is responsible for preparing and delivering didactic and laboratory education that meets the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Department of Public Health (DPH), Division of Health Care Quality guidelines for CNA/HHA certification standards. They develop and deliver course content using high quality pedagogical techniques to ensure maximum student success and learning. They also work with the Continuing Education Division team to ensure compliance with all regulatory and college administrative policies and practices.
Essential Functions:
The duties of the Adjunct Non-Credit CNA/HHA instructor include, but are not limited to:
Provide CNA/HHA curriculum development and instruction following the DPH Division of Health Care Quality guidelines for CNA/HHA training.
Provide the coordination and supervision of CNA/HHA students at their assigned clinical sites.
Prepare and maintain all CNA/HHA program materials for and participate in periodic Commonwealth on-site program reviews to maintain DPH certification.
Provide real-world clinical scenarios and facilitate practice of critical CNA/HHA skills.
Maintain a safe and inclusive learning environment in classroom and clinical lab settings following best practices and industry standards.
Clearly communicate the importance of HIPAA compliance to students, integrating legal, ethical, and professional responsibilities into classroom and lab instruction.
Assess student progress and support development of academic and professional skills.
Assist students with setting academic and professional goals.
Monitor email communications from students and the college and respond in a timely manner, as appropriate.
Ensure that classes meet for the allotted time on every scheduled meeting day during the semester.
Provide timely and consistent feedback to students.
Maintain accurate student records of attendance, participation, and grades.
Meet all deadlines for grade submission to the Registrar's Office, student participation reports, and/or other administrative documentation as required.
Works collaboratively with Division staff.
Focus on the Commonwealth's Equity Agenda by applying related best practices throughout all job functions.
Participate in required Human Resources and Information Technology Services trainings, new instructor orientations, and periodic check-in meetings with Division staff.
Requirements:

Skills/Experience/Training:
Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing
Registered Nurse (RN) with a current Massachusetts RN license
At least two (2) years of work experience as an RN
At least one (1) year of experience providing long-term care services
At least one year (1) of experience in lesson planning, lesson delivery, student evaluation and remediation in a health care setting
Must have completed a course in teaching adults OR have experience in teaching adults or supervising nurse aides.
Strong interpersonal skills
Communication skills that demonstrate sensitivity to adult learners, non-native English speakers, and diversely prepared students
Experience with post-secondary leaning programs
Demonstrated teaching and educational facilitation skills
Knowledge of competency-based education principles and methods
Ability to assess student performance and progress and to provide appropriate feedback
Ability to foster critical thinking and problem-solving among students
Familiarity with learning management systems and other remote learning technology
Demonstrated ability to adapt teaching style and materials to meet the individual needs of students
Proven technological proficiency, which may include Microsoft Office 365 applications
Preferred Qualifications:
Complete a CNA instructor training program that covers state regulations, teaching methods, and curriculum development
Experience integrating technology into teaching, including online and blended learning
Multilingual fluency in Spanish, French, Portuguese, French Creole, or Cape Verdean Creole
Demonstrated understanding of the community college mission and role with a focus on promoting diversity, equity and inclusion
Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
Additional Information:

Semester:

Beginning February 2026 for the Spring semester and the Summer 2026 semester
Position Status:

Part-time, non-benefitted. Adjunct instructors are hired on an as needed basis each semester.
Supervisor:

Associate Dean, Community Education
Hours:

Designated weekday evenings, 5:30 pm - 9:00 pm or weekends; not to exceed 18 hours per week
Salary:

$75.00 per hour
Worksite:

Assignments depend upon course format - i.e., in-person at the Canton campus, hybrid (both in-person and online), or fully online as needed.
