Job Summary
Under the direction of the Clinical Director of the Infusion Center, the Infusion Center Coordinator is a professional registered nurse who assumes leadership responsibilities in the Infusion Center. The Coordinator RN is responsible for staff scheduling, on‑site supervision of nurses, ensuring quality care is delivered in all clinical areas, compliance with policies, regulations and accreditor standards, monitoring unit quality metrics, staff performance management, routine patient rounding, maintaining staff files, staff competencies, and infusion nurse billing compliance. On an ongoing basis, the Coordinator RN evaluates the role of the Infusion Center nurses and recommends revisions to support operations.
Responsibilities and Essential Functions
Ensures staff participation in Nursing Quality Improvement activities and identifies quality issue trends with respect to Quality Patient Occurrences, incident reports and patient care outcomes; submits reports and statistics as required, and supervises and participates in implementing planned changes to improve patient care.
Collaborates with the Clinical Director of The Cancer Center and Infusion Center and Nursing Education in determining group and/or individual learning needs within the unit.
Participates in the development, implementation and evaluation of hospital policies and procedures related to nursing practices and personnel management.
Assesses the physical environment of the unit for cleanliness and safety hazards; responds appropriately to create a safe therapeutic environment for patients, personnel and the public; evaluates equipment and supplies, and monitors for quality and effectiveness.
Ensures JCAHO and federal requirements are met, adhered to, completed and documented in a timely manner.
Develops staff schedules; on a daily basis, identifies the number and assignment of nurses required to provide patient care based on patient needs.
Evaluates the quality of nursing care delivered by nursing staff by reviewing plans for care and protocols, assessing patients, and interviewing; identifies problems and/or areas requiring improvements.
Ensures the Infusion Center nurses function collaboratively, encouraging teamwork and fostering cohesiveness.
Qualifications
Graduate from an accredited school of nursing and currently licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse in the state.
Bachelor of Science in Nursing and BLS certification required.
IV certified and ONS/ONCC chemotherapy certified.
Three to five years of oncology nursing experience preferred.
