Position Summary
The Phlebotomist is responsible for the proper collection and handling of specimens as appropriate for the patient. The Phlebotomist is able to handle all areas of processes and procedures while maintaining a friendly and customer service approach with patients. Accurately and efficiently reports critical results and monitors incoming results from reference labs and logs/communicates results to providers via the Electronic Medical Record.
Job Duties/Responsibilities:
Draws blood competently, consistently and expediently with as little patient discomfort as possible.
Identifies the patient using the two-unique identifiers described in the hospital's policy before services are provided.
Records phlebotomy requisitions on log.
Displays courteous, professional demeanor toward patients, co-workers, nursing and medical staff.

Qualifications

High School Diploma or equivalency required.
Graduate of an accredited Phlebotomy Certificate program required.
Current Certified Phlebotomy Technician (CPT) certification through National Healthcare Association (NHA) or ability to obtain within 3 months of hire.
At least 6 months of active phlebotomy and specimen collection experience is required.
Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification
Ability to deal with diverse and stress related situations in a calm manner.
Must be detail oriented with a high degree of accuracy.
Must have good organizational and computer technical skills and have the ability to set priorities.
