Bridge Inspection TEC Lead
Locations: Columbia, SC – Greenville, SC

Opportunity
WSP seeks an experienced Bridge Inspection TEC Lead to work closely with the Bridge Inspection District Manager for Carolina on a full‑time basis to secure new bridge inspection and repair work for NCDOT, SCDOT, county and city authorities and other transportation agencies.

Responsibilities

Plan, schedule, and perform SCDOT bridge inspections in compliance with the National Bridge Inspection Standards (NBIS) and the AASHTO Manual for Condition Evaluation of Bridges.

Liaise with client field/facility staff and communicate critical condition findings.

Lead and direct other field team members.

Enforce safe operations in the field.

Create or review all required inspection reports.

Ensure technical compliance with applicable standards and specifications.

Exercise responsible and ethical decision‑making regarding company funds, resources and conduct in adherence to WSP's Code of Conduct.

Support the Mid‑Atlantic District and National Bridge Inspection group in performing bridge, ancillary, and culvert inspections in different jurisdictions as required.

Assist in the preparation of proposals, tasks, reports, and other documents.

Who You Are
Required Qualifications

Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from an ABET accredited institution.

Professional Engineering licensure.

10+ years of bridge inspection (NBIS) experience with NCDOT and other transportation clients.

Experience as Project Manager/Team Leader in NC and other states as required.

Successful management of bridge inspection projects for NCDOT and/or SCDOT.

Completion of NHI Safety Inspection of In‑Service Bridges course.

Completion of additional NHI courses (e.g., NSTM, LRFR, and scour related).

Highly effective interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with engineering and non‑engineering audiences.

Strong self‑leadership with attention to detail, multitasking, and prioritization in a dynamic work environment.

Independent work with minimal oversight, providing guidance to junior team members and adhering to QA/QC.

Physically capable of continuous field work, including heights, ladders, adverse weather, etc.

Excellent attention to detail and critical thinking skills.

Team‑oriented approach.

Valid, unrestricted driver’s license.

Ability to supervise, train, and direct team members.

Time and budget management skills.

Track record of maintaining workplace safety and compliance with WSP’s health, safety, drug/alcohol, and harassment policies.

Successful completion of WSP’s Motor Vehicle screening.

The selected candidate must be authorized to work in the United States.

Preferred Qualifications

Master’s degree in engineering.

Additional FHWA/NHI training such as 130078 Fracture Critical Inspection Techniques for Steel Bridges, 130087 Inspection and Maintenance of Ancillary Highway Structures.

Experience inspecting railroad, complex bridges, tunnels, and ancillary structures.

Familiarity with or certification in NDT techniques and UAS applications.

Familiarity with rope‑access techniques and/or UAS operations.
