
Blood Collection Staff - Customer Service

Overview
Job Description: The American Red Cross offers paid phlebotomy training with the opportunity to grow your healthcare skills and career within the nation’s top humanitarian organization.
Role involves using healthcare and/or customer service skills to assist with every step of the blood collection process, including transporting and setting up equipment at donation sites, creating a welcoming environment for volunteer donors, and following safety procedures to collect lifesaving blood donations.
Key Responsibilities
Take time to connect with donors, listen to their stories, and explain how their donation makes an impact.
Collaborate with teammates to create a welcoming environment so donors feel comfortable returning.
Maintain attention to detail to ensure collected blood meets goals, regulatory requirements, and safety standards for transfusion.
May drive Red Cross vehicles and assist with setting up and tearing down equipment at donation sites. Position may require a minimum height of 60 inches to operate vehicles safely.
Standard Schedule (Watertown, New York):
Variable hours with Monday through Friday or Tuesday through Saturday schedule
Schedule provided two to three weeks in advance
Compensation
Starting rate $20.03/hr
Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent
Customer service experience and effective verbal communication skills
Current, valid driver’s license with good driving record
Physical requirements: ability to lift, push or pull heavy weights, good manual dexterity, ability to sit or stand for long periods, and adapt to long/irregular hours and schedule changes. Position may require minimum height of 60 inches to operate Red Cross vehicles
Experience working as part of a team to set up and tear down mobile blood drive equipment
Basic computer skills, proficiency with Microsoft Office applications
Preferred Qualifications
Prior healthcare or phlebotomy experience (e.g., CNA, MA, EMT)
