Job Overview
The American Red Cross is seeking a Phlebotomy Technician to assist with every step of the blood collection process. This role involves transporting and setting up equipment at local community sites, creating a welcoming environment for volunteer donors, and following all safety procedures while collecting lifesaving blood donations for hospitals. Paid phlebotomy training is provided, and the position offers opportunities to grow healthcare skills within a humanitarian organization.
Key Responsibilities
Connect personally with donors, listening to their stories and helping them understand how impactful their donation is.
Collaborate with teammates to create a welcoming and friendly environment so donor volunteers feel comfortable returning.
Maintain detailed orientation throughout the day to ensure collected blood meets goals, regulatory requirements, and can be safely transfused.
Drive Red Cross vehicles and work with the team to set up and tear down donation equipment; minimum height of 60 inches may be required to operate vehicles.
Standard Schedule
Staff work a variable schedule that may include early mornings, late nights, weekends, holidays, and overnight travel in some locations.
Schedule is provided two to three weeks in advance.
Pay Information
$21.34/hr (Entry-Level)
$25.81/hr (LPN License)
$31.00/hr (RN License)
Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent.
Customer service experience and effective verbal communication skills.
A valid driver’s license with a good driving record.
Physical ability to lift, push, or pull heavy weights; manual dexterity; ability to sit or stand for long periods; adapt to long, irregular hours and frequent schedule changes.
Experience working on mobile blood drives, including setting up and tearing down equipment.
Basic computer skills and proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
Preferred Qualifications
Prior healthcare or phlebotomy experience (CNA, MA, EMT, etc.).
Prior leadership experience.
