
Maintenance Technician III - Test Systems

Position Summary
The Maintenance Technician III is responsible for the repair, service, calibration, and commissioning (i.e., installation and technical support) of test systems to support end‑of‑line and related testing operations at ZF facilities and customer sites. This is a safety‑sensitive position.
Position Responsibilities - Essential
Diagnose, repair, maintain, install, and rebuild a variety of test systems to support validation processes on‑site and at customer sites.
Install equipment, perform test procedures, diagnose mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, or pneumatic issues, and analyze malfunction to determine required repairs.
Replace electric motors, pumps, belts, electric wiring, numeric controls, and related components involving mechanical, electrical, electronic, hydraulic, and pneumatic functions.
Tear down and inspect component parts; repair, reassemble, and test valves, pumps, solenoid valves, and rewire controls.
Build and machine special assembly or test fixtures and replacement parts.
Move and install equipment; wire in electric power and hook up air lines.
Perform scheduled preventive maintenance on test systems.
Periodically check equipment safety devices for effective functionality.
Document issues, solutions, and repair work performed.
Report unusual equipment or operating issues to management as they arise.
Train and mentor technicians and engineers in test system repair, service, calibration, and commissioning.
Use a variety of machine tools and test equipment, including lathes, mills, grinders, saws, drill presses, electrical meters, electronic control analyzers, welding equipment, measuring tools, precision inspection tools, and hand tools.
Maintain an organized and hazard‑free work area in compliance with all policies and governmental guidelines to ensure a safe and productive environment.
Work in accordance with 5S procedures.
Participate in continuous improvement programs.
Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, formal training, reviewing professional publications, establishing and expanding professional networks, and participating in professional societies.
Ensure all safety procedures, practices, and regulations are followed before, during, and after the process to foster a positive safety culture.
Based on the nature of the essential functions, this role is designated as a “safety‑sensitive” position.
Qualifications
High School diploma or GED equivalent.
6+ years of related experience in complex machine maintenance.
Experience reading blueprints in DIN/ISO standard metric format.
Experience analyzing blueprints and using mathematics to evaluate complex machine drawings.
Knowledge of hydraulics, pneumatics, mechanical components, and part functionalities.
Knowledge of machine, tool, equipment, and test system operations, and related repair methods involving mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic components.
Deep knowledge of electrical wiring and troubleshooting.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word).
Basic math and reading skills.
Ability to work independently in a fast‑paced, high‑volume environment.
Ability to interface with cross‑functional teams and all levels of personnel and management.
Good verbal and written communication skills.
Strong mechanical experience with problem‑solving, analytical skills, and high attention to detail.
Willingness to travel up to 50% domestically.
Valid driver’s license.
Experience demonstrating a successful support of a positive safety culture.
