Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Cardiovascular ICU (CTICU/CVICU) position at a Level I Trauma Center in Arizona, requiring a minimum of 2 years of ICU experience and CVICU background preferred.

Work setting is an acute care Level I Trauma Center in a 24‑bed CTICU/CVICU unit
High‑acuity patient population including cardiac surgery recovery, IABP, CABG, CRRT, ECMO, lung transplant, thoracic surgery, TAVR, esophagectomy, lobectomy, and pneumectomy
Patient ratios are 1:1–2, with a high number of 1:1 assignments
Philips telemetry monitoring is used on the unit
EMR is Cerner
12‑hour night shifts, 7pm–7am
3 weekend shifts required per 4‑week schedule
Holidays are worked on a rotation basis based on unit coverage needs
Float required to other ICUs, all telemetry units (4:1 ratio), and to the Westgate campus; travelers float before permanent staff
No IV team on unit — strong IV skills are essential
Respiratory therapy and pharmacy available 24/7; pharmacy supports transplant patients
Charge nurses carry no patient assignment; 2 PCTs available days and nights during high census
13‑week contract
Requirements
Active AZ RN license or Compact (NLC) RN license required; must be active at time of consideration — pending licenses not accepted
Current BLS and ACLS certifications required; pending certifications not accepted
CCRN preferred
Minimum 2 years of ICU experience required; CVICU experience strongly preferred
Level I Trauma experience required
Experience with IABP and CABG required to take applicable patients
Strong IV skills required — no IV team on unit
Cerner EMR experience
Must pass a Relias Dysrhythmia exam prior to offer confirmation; candidates have 2 attempts
2 professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, both including dates of employment and eligibility for rehire
Copy of valid driver’s license required for consideration
Additional Information
Candidate must permanently reside at least 50 miles from the facility; permanent address is verified via driver’s license
Candidates who have been directly employed (full‑time, part‑time, or PRN) by any CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity facility within the past year are not eligible; candidates employed PRN through outside firms will be considered
On Day 1 of orientation, nurses must pass a pass/fail SIMs Lab assessment covering sterile technique for Foley catheter insertion and central line dressing changes — nurses have been released during SIMs Lab for breaking sterile field
Orientation also includes educational modules on lifts, restraints, and wound care
2 days of floor‑specific orientation provided
Navy scrubs required
Natural hair color and no facial piercings required; men must be clean‑shaven for fit testing
Travelers are required to have their own personal vehicle
Failure of the Relias Dysrhythmia exam on the second attempt results in a 6‑month DNU status across all CommonSpirit Arizona and Sacramento region facilities
