The Position

This is a

hybrid position . Following the successful completion of an initial training period, this role offers the flexibility to work

remotely one day per week , with the remainder of the schedule performed in-person.
As a Legal Assistant 2, you will support the ALJs by managing the complex lifecycle of an appeal—from the initial request to the final disposition. Your work directly impacts how benefits, licensing, and claimant fraud cases are handled, ensuring all parties receive a timely and documented hearing.
Key Responsibilities

Case Management & Exhibit Preparation:

Verify incoming appeals, select appropriate exhibits, and create comprehensive hearing packets for ALJs and involved parties.
Procedural Support:

Research case files, analyze jurisdiction and legal issues, and determine the timeliness of hearing requests based on Federal and State laws.
ALJ Assistance:

Facilitate hearing schedules, assist with case research, upload legal decisions and dispositions, and perform document entry into our repositories.
Communication & Service:

Handle customer inquiries, assist with elevated docket calls, and manage correspondence with internal and external stakeholders with a focus on professionalism and confidentiality.
Data Integrity:

Maintain accurate, confidential records, identify and correct errors in documentation, and manage high-volume, repetitive work with a high level of speed and accuracy.
What You Bring

Technical Skills

Office Productivity:

Proficiency in

Google Apps (Gmail, Docs, Sheets)

and

Adobe Acrobat .
Systems Management:

Experience with case management systems, including

APS, Clear2There, Guide (mainframe), HEAplus, AZTECS, and CACTUS .
Equipment:

Ability to operate various office equipment and manage multiple computer programs simultaneously.
Legal Expertise:

Knowledge of Arizona Public Assistance and Unemployment Insurance law, practices, and procedures, as well as the Administrative Procedures Act.
Critical Thinking:

Ability to resolve conflicts between competing information, analyze complex case data, and make command decisions under tight deadlines.
Communication:

Exceptional written and verbal communication skills; ability to interact effectively with a diverse range of customers and agency personnel.
Adaptability:

Ability to work with minimal supervision while adhering to strict office policies, security procedures, and confidentiality mandates.
