Job Description
We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Paralegal to support our attorneys in civil litigation and appellate matters. This role is ideal for a tech-savvy professional who thrives in a fast-paced environment and enjoys helping clients navigate sensitive legal issues while keeping firm operations running smoothly.
Key Responsibilities
Drafting & Filing: Draft, format, and file pleadings, motions, and other court documents across our practice areas, including Family Law, Guardianship, Probate, and Appeals.
Discovery & Case Management: Prepare discovery materials, financial disclosures, and case summaries to ensure attorneys are fully prepared for every stage of a case.
Trial & Hearing Support: Assist attorneys with comprehensive hearing and trial preparation, utilizing "honed skills" to help achieve successful results.
Legal Research & Writing: Conduct high-level legal research and draft persuasive pleadings, motions, and appellate briefs for a variety of practice areas, including Family Law, Business Law, Probate, Construction Law, and Local Government Law.
File Oversight: Maintain organized electronic client files, case calendars, and task lists, ensuring all deadlines are met through digital document workflows.
Communication: Communicate effectively with clients, courts, and opposing counsel to provide the high level of service our firm is known for.
Administrative Support: Track attorney and staff time accurately and support billing processes using the firm’s timekeeping software.
Qualifications
Experience: Minimum 2 years of experience as a legal assistant or paralegal, preferably in litigation-heavy practice areas like family law or probate.
Legal Knowledge: Strong working knowledge of local court procedures and electronic filing systems.
Technical Proficiency: High proficiency with Microsoft Office, PDF tools, and case/document management systems (such as Clio, Smokeball, or MyCase).
Writing Skills: Excellent writing, organization, and communication skills are essential for document preparation and client interaction.
Attributes: Detail-oriented and able to work independently in a small, team-oriented office.
