Summary

Reporting to Sales Manager-Non-Automotive, this position is Sales Engineer - Automotive responsible for sales activities to automotive OEMs, automotive Tier Suppliers, and Distributors for accounts and/or territories assigned by the Vice President of Sales and/or the Sales Manager. The Sales Engineer participates in the development of department and personal goals and works closely with the management team to support the company's goals.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Perform North American sales activities of Hutchinson Precision Sealing Systems as assigned by the Sales Manager, including developing sales strategies, customer development, customer relations, negotiating contracts, revenue, and gross profit forecasting.

Aggressively grow sales to the OEM, Tier, and Distribution markets as assigned.

Participate in the formulation of short-term and long-term action plans that support the company strategy.

Analyze cost data and market prices to help increase and assure profitability.

Meet or surpass individual yearly objectives agreed with the Sales Manager to support company strategy.

Monitor and report progress toward individual and company objectives using available tools.

Maintain accurate records of pricing, sales, and activity reports using available tools.

Comply with internal procedures and defined rules.

Continuously evaluate systems and procedures and recommend improvements.

Assist Business Development and Application Engineers to propose technical product solutions that meet customer needs.

Develop and maintain the pipeline of RFQs for new business opportunities.

Consult with Product Development, R&D, and/or Manufacturing Engineering in the preparation of pricing RFQs.

Perform benchmarking of assigned markets to define and justify appropriate price levels.

Monitor technical evolutions and competition trends in assigned markets.

Stay current with international variances in cultural and legal issues pertaining to sales.

Adhere to all company policies, procedures, and business ethics codes.

Demonstrate ability to interact and cooperate with all company employees.

Act as liaison between Customers and Manufacturing and/or Engineering as required by management.

Education and Experience

Bachelor's degree (B.A.) from a four-year college or university in engineering, business, or equivalent.

Minimum of 2 years' experience as a Sales Engineer in automotive/industrial markets or B2B sales.

Qualifications

Ability to understand technical requirements and solutions (prints, specifications, etc.).

Goal- and results-oriented with a sense of urgency, pro-active, take-charge, self-starter operating style.

Able to travel up to 50% of the time, including travel to Mexico and Canada (passport required).

Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Proven negotiating skills.

Assertive, achievement orientation.

Desired Skills and Experience

Same requirements as above with emphasis on technical understanding of requirements and solutions and successful B2B sales experience in automotive/industrial markets.
