Minimum Requirements
Graduation from high school or possession of an equivalency diploma, plus one (1) year of experience as a skilled worker in one or more of the electrical, mechanical, or construction trades.
NOTE: Additional experience may be substituted for the high school diploma on a year-for-year basis.
Special Requirements: If appointed, required to have a valid license to operate a motor vehicle in New York State or otherwise demonstrate capacity to meet transportation needs.
Desired Qualifications
Skilled work involving responsibility for efficient performance of a variety of building tasks.
Installation, maintenance, and repair tasks: good knowledge of construction trades such as carpentry, masonry, painting and facility maintenance.
Experience performing locksmith activities.
Working knowledge of specific hazards and safety precautions.
Ability to perform heavy manual labor, include lifting, manual dexterity, endurance.
Ability to read schematics, perform research, follow instructions.
Ability to work under supervision.
Ability to establish good working relationships with others.
Ability to work under all weather conditions.
Dependability, health and physical condition commensurate with demands of the position.
Class "D" driver license required.
Construction trades skills.
Computer and program application knowledge.
Position Summary / Responsibilities
Duties to include maintenance and repair of: skilled work in one or more of the construction trades; masonry, carpentry, painting, or locksmith.
Installs, maintains, repairs and rebuilds paneling, bulletin boards, shelves, ceiling & floor tiles, insulation, gutter systems and weather stripping.
Mixes and lays cement and concrete for walks, steps, floors and foundations. Plasters walls, ceilings, cuts stone, lays brick and blocks. Performs a variety of masonry activities.
Makes, assembles, installs, maintains, repairs and rebuilds doors, windows, stairs, walls, floors, desks, chairs, cabinets, tables and other wood products, equipment and structures.
Prepares paints and refinishes wood, metal and other surfaces.
Repairs and maintenance on several types of roofs.
Other duties as assigned.
