Position Description

Ryder is hiring a Master Level Diesel Technician in Richmond, VA — offering weekly pay, excellent benefits, and a Technician career you can feel good about.
Hourly Pay: $35.00 per hour
Certification Bonus: $100 for each new ASE Certification up to $700
Quarterly Bonus: up to $500 each quarter (four times per year)
Schedule: Monday–Friday, weekends off
Hours: Second Shift 3:00 pm – 11:30 pm

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent preferred
Vocational or technical certification / Post‑secondary degree or technical certifications, preferred
Basic tools, required
Demonstrated aptitude and experience in mechanical repair of automotive gas or diesel engines:
Routine preventative maintenance (oil changes, brake and tire work)
Diagnostics and repairs (AC, electrical systems)
Advanced skilled level repairs (major engine, diesel after treatment, or automotive fuel injection)
Four (4) years or more relevant work experience, preferred
Valid Commercial Driver License (CDL) Class A, preferred
All other certifications required by location, required
Additional Requirements

Ability to perform all T3 tasks
Advanced analytical and repair skills in vehicle maintenance
Effective interpersonal communication skills
Basic computer skills (PC, Windows, mouse, etc.)
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
Availability for shift work, weekends, and on‑call duty as required
Preferred ASE Certification in PM, Brakes, A/C, electrical, electronics, or ASE Master Mechanic
Proficiency in operating shop computers and diagnostic test equipment
Minimum tool requirement
Vehicle road test as necessary
Coaching/mentoring/influencing others
This position requires driving Ryder vehicles:
Must obtain a CDL within 6 months after hire
Pass a Ryder drug test
Pass a DOT physical
Pass a Ryder road test
Pass a Ryder background and motor‑vehicle check (including drug/alcohol verification from previous employers for last 3 years)

Some positions require additional screening that may include employment and education verification; motor‑vehicle records check and a road test; and/or badging or background requirements of the customer to which you are assigned.
Responsibilities

Complete SBTIII training within 180 days (SBT220)
Complete all OEM on‑line diagnostic scan tool software courses as required by location fleet mix (within 365 days)
Complete instructor‑led OEM courses as required
Perform vehicle maintenance and repair duties:
Standard vehicle maintenance
Preventive maintenance
Complex repairs with minimal support
Access and use internal and external maintenance documents
Diagnose and repair complex mechanical and electronic problems with minimal support, using diagnostic computers/software as applicable
Perform remote triage with RCRC and customers to determine best solution for roadside breakdowns
Perform facility maintenance duties
Interact with customers/drivers to determine nature of complaint once assigned a task
Instruct and advise other technicians regarding maintenance, repair procedures and diagnostics
Coach and mentor other level technicians
Advise shop management and other technicians on shop repairs
Utilize key functions of Shop Management System and electronic documentation available
Work in accordance with all federal/provincial and corporate compliance guidelines (i.e., safety, DOT, MOT)
Other support duties as required to support operations, including but not limited to Service Island support
