Description of the Job
The Behavior Technician is a paraprofessional who assists in delivering behavior analytic services at the Regional Center. Responsibilities include data collection, program implementation, crisis management, and training of direct support staff.
Responsibilities
Engage in data collection through an Electronic Health Record or physical records as guided by the supervising BCBA.
Collect data on interfering or maladaptive behaviors to support functional behavior assessments (FBA) and skill acquisition targets, including daily living skills, tolerance, and coping strategies.
Identify deficits in the residential environment to improve data collection accuracy.
Use Interobserver Agreement to verify data collection accuracy.
Recommend action plans for improvement to support services within the program standards.
Implement preference assessments and skill acquisition programs to promote learning.
Deliver highly preferred items that function as reinforcement for desirable behaviors.
Implement behavior reduction programs, including antecedent and consequent strategies, as outlined by the supervising BCBA.
Document the outcome of treatments and program implementation timely and accurately.
Physically lift, transport, and/or position residents using approved lifting techniques.
Apply crisis management curriculum, Safety Care, to keep individuals and staff safe.
Follow the Behavior Intervention Plan of the individual during interfering behaviors.
Determine appropriate reinforcement methods considering restrictions, resources, and needs.
Use behavior analytic techniques such as pairing, behavioral momentum, and antecedent intervention to increase compliance with treatment.
Provide clinical skills to give staff feedback on program fidelity and data collection, prior to contacting the supervising BCBA.
Training & Supervision
Provide onsite training and monitor direct care staff to ensure proper implementation of program plans.
Identify training needs and initiate requests for professional development.
Report any problems with staff compliance to the direct supervisor.
Assist residents in all areas of daily living related to behavioral needs (eating, hygiene, dressing, bathing, toileting, and clothing care).
Report training deficits to the supervising BCBA.
Other Duties as Assigned
Perform additional duties as directed by the supervisory staff.
Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma or GED.
Two (2) years of experience in an occupational field related to the work.
Current and valid Registered Behavioural Technician (RBT) certification.
College coursework in Human Services, Rehabilitation, Therapy, or Medical may substitute for required experience on a year‑for‑year basis.
Conditions of Employment
The position requires state residency, a valid Colorado driver’s license (or U.S. driver’s license for locations within 30 miles of the Colorado border), and the ability to lift 50 lbs and perform required physical interventions. Availability to work any shift, any day, and any area is required. Travel to remote sites and use of a state vehicle may be required.
