Position Overview
The Senior Accountant is a key contributor to the finance team, responsible for ensuring the accuracy, integrity, and timeliness of financial reporting in a project‑based construction environment. This role partners closely with the Controller, CFO, and operational leaders to provide financial insights that support decision‑making, optimize project performance, and maintain compliance with accounting standards and regulations.
Key Responsibilities
Manage general ledger activities, including journal entries, account reconciliations, and month‑end close processes
Prepare accurate and timely financial statements, reports, and supporting schedules
Perform job‑cost accounting, variance analysis, and project profitability tracking
Support revenue recognition in accordance with GAAP and ASC 606 (percentage‑of‑completion)
Collaborate with project managers and operations teams on cost forecasts and change order accounting
Monitor work‑in‑progress (WIP), billing, and collections to support healthy cash flow
Ensure compliance with internal controls, company policies, and applicable regulations
Assist with external audits, tax filings, and ESOP‑related accounting requirements
Identify opportunities to improve processes, enhance controls, and leverage accounting systems

Consistently support timely and accurate financial close cycles
Deliver reliable job‑cost and project financial data that informs business decisions
Maintain well‑reconciled accounts with minimal audit adjustments
Contribute to effective cash flow management and forecasting
Identify opportunities to improve financial processes, reporting, and controls
Build strong partnerships with cross‑functional teams

Requirements
Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance
5+ years of progressive accounting experience
Experience in construction or project‑based accounting environments
Strong understanding of job‑cost accounting and revenue recognition methods
Proficiency in accounting systems (e.g., VISTA, HCSS, or similar) and advanced Excel skills
Ability to manage multiple priorities in a deadline‑driven environment
Valid driver's license
Preferred
CPA or CMA certification
Experience in an ESOP or employee‑owned company
Familiarity with Arizona construction regulations (prevailing wage, DOT, aviation)
Experience with ERP systems or process improvement initiatives
