Temporary Summer Maintenance – District 2 (North/NE Iowa)
Join our team this summer as a Temporary Summer Maintenance worker and play a hands‑on role in keeping our roadways safe, clean, and well‑maintained. This position offers the opportunity to work outdoors, operate a variety of equipment, and support essential maintenance activities such as traffic control, mowing, debris removal, pavement repair, drainage upkeep, and guardrail work. Responsibilities
Perform duties associated with routine roadway and roadside maintenance including traffic control, mowing, removing litter and debris, patching pavement with asphalt and concrete, cleaning and repairing drainage, landscaping, repairing and installing guardrail, maintaining shoulders, and working on the District paint or bridge crew.
Operate equipment such as pick‑ups, front‑end loaders, tractors, backhoes, mowers, and hand tools such as chainsaws, pneumatic hammers, weed‑eaters, and shovels.
Perform routine preventative maintenance and minor repairs on all assigned equipment.
Respond to roadway emergencies such as traffic accidents, vehicle breakdowns, or stranded motorists by calling emergency services, assisting motorists with basic repairs, or providing basic assistance as needed.
Lift/lower, carry and push/pull various amounts of force within the 'heavy work' definition; use team lift or mechanical assist for weights over 75 pounds; perform tasks that require climbing, kneeling, crouching, crawling, stooping, twisting while meeting safety standards.
Pay
No CDL: $20.76/hour
With CDL: $21.76/hour
Employment Dates
Temporary employment is available April 24, 2026 – October 9, 2026. Position will remain posted until filled.
Minimum Qualification Requirements
Must possess a valid Driver’s License which must be maintained throughout employment.
Applicants must be at least 18 years of age at the time of hire.
