Cleveland State University is hiring: Visiting Legal Writing Professor in Clevel

Cleveland State University, Cleveland, OH, United States

Job Summary
The College of Law at Cleveland State University invites applications from entry-level and lateral candidates for the position of a Visiting Legal Writing Professor of Law, beginning in the 2026-27 academic year. This is a non-tenure-track 10-month contract position starting August 1, 2026.

The College of Law has a longstanding Legal Writing program, with a required two-semester, six-credit, graded legal writing and research course in the first year and a required third semester of legal writing after the first year, which is satisfied by taking one of a number of legal writing courses.

The successful candidate will teach two sections of the required first-year course (approximately 35 students total) and may teach a third-semester legal writing course. Students retain the same professor for both semesters. Visiting Legal Writing professors teach research, writing, and analysis, but do not teach appellate advocacy.

Visiting Legal Writing professors may also advise students undertaking independent research projects and have other administrative and advising duties within the College of Law. Additionally, they may choose to participate in the broader legal writing community through scholarship and service.

Visiting Legal Writing professors at the College of Law do not vote at faculty meetings. However, they participate in law school and university governance, serve on faculty committees, and otherwise contribute as valued members of the College of Law and Cleveland State communities.
