The College of Law at Cleveland State University invites applications from entry-level and lateral candidates for the position of a Visiting Legal Writing Professor of Law, beginning in the 2026-27 academic year. This is a non‑tenure‑track 10‑month contract position starting August 1, 2026.
Responsibilities
Teach two sections of the required first‑year legal writing course (approximately 35 students total) and may teach one third‑semester legal writing course.
Maintain the same professor for both semesters.
Provide instruction in research, writing, and analysis; do not conduct appellate advocacy.
Advise students undertaking independent research projects and perform other administrative and advising duties within the College of Law.
Participate in the broader legal writing community through scholarship and service.
Serve on faculty committees and contribute to law school and university governance.
Minimum Qualifications
J.D. from an ABA‑accredited law school.
Minimum of two years of legal practice experience or a judicial clerkship.
Strong academic record.
Preferred Qualifications
Practice and experience demonstrating legal writing and research expertise.
Teaching experience.
Skill in using online teaching and learning platforms, including for remote instruction.
Potential for excellence in teaching legal writing.
Strong interpersonal skills.
