Position Summary:
We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Development Manager, Major Gifts. In this role, the successful candidate works closely with the Senior Director, raising funds from individual donors at the major‑gift level (five‑and‑six‑figure gifts) and supporting cultivation and stewardship strategies directed by leadership. The Development Manager, Major Gifts will have their own portfolio focused on the $25K+ level working towards an annual goal of $1M to $2M (contingent upon portfolio & experience level), with a target of closing 30+ gifts annually. The ideal candidate will be committed to NYULH’s mission and values, will have excellent written and verbal communication skills and a desire for regular face‑to‑face prospect and physician/staff interaction. They will be highly energetic and resilient in the face of challenges that come with academic medical fundraising.

Job Responsibilities:

Manage portfolio of new and existing prospects who have capacity to give at least $25K+; team will work together to assign prospects based on giving capacity and history with NYULH.

Participate in face‑to‑face solicitations for prospects with whom they have built relationships.

Work with Senior Directors, Development Directors, faculty and staff to identify, cultivate, solicit and steward donors and prospects with wealth capacity.

Participate in physician meetings with Senior Director and team. Over time, Manager, Major Gifts will be assigned their own physicians with whom to partner on identifying, cultivating and soliciting grateful patients.

Document all development activity related to identification, cultivation, solicitation, and reporting/stewardship using the TRAX database.

Coordinate prospect research with the Prospect Research Management and Strategy team to identify new major donor prospects from the patient database and other sources.

Schedule donor tours, revise and prepare decks for prospects, draft follow‑up or introductory correspondence with donors and prospects, perform research as initial screen and/or to complement the work of Prospect Research as necessary, BBCRM (TRAX) pipeline integration and portfolio management.

Build strong personal relationships with donors and prospects through strategic phone calls, personalized email communications, ongoing written correspondence, in‑person visits, formal presentations, and events.

Develop working knowledge of Medical Centers and Departments goals, priorities and programs to help ensure successful fundraising.

Liaise with the Development Communications team on the development of materials highlighting programs.

Prepare letters of inquiry, proposals and reports to prospects and donors on behalf of Medical Center faculty members to seek support and steward gifts for research, education and clinical services.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Additional Position Specific Responsibilities:

Bachelor’s Degree required.

5‑7+ years of relevant experience, minimum of 2‑4 years of experience in major gifts.

Experience in raising $25,000+ major gifts.

Strong writing and editing skills.

Ability to work independently and as a team member.

Excellent organizational, interpersonal and communication skills.

Self‑motivated, outgoing and results oriented; nimbly managing multiple priorities, stakeholders, and projects and follow through to completion; a problem‑solver and team player; action and deadline‑oriented.

Knowledge of software applications, including Microsoft Suite.

Development database experience.

Operates and adapts well in a fast‑paced environment.

Works strategically, collaboratively, respectfully, and professionally with colleagues across all divisions and teams within the department.

Communicates clearly, shares, listens and recognizes others’ contributions.

Possesses the presence, cultural sensitivity, and communication skills necessary to be an effective representative of NYU Langone Health and a liaison to the donor base.

Minimum Qualifications:

Must have a Bachelor’s Degree and 5‑7+ years of experience in a university, medical center, healthcare, nonprofit or comparable corporate setting.

High degree of computer literacy, specifically knowledge of MS Office suite (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Excel).

Excellent organizational skills and impeccable attention to detail.

Superb communicator in both writing and speech, with major phone and in‑person communications skills.

Ability to manage numerous projects simultaneously in a fast‑paced work environment.

Excellent listening and problem‑solving skills.

Possesses intellectual curiosity, kindness, integrity and a sense of humor, even in times of stress.

Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.

Adaptability and openness to criticism.

Sense of urgency in completing projects.

Preferred Qualifications:

Same criteria as Minimum Qualifications apply with an emphasis on major gifts experience.

Experience in raising $25,000+ major gifts.

NYU Langone Health provides a salary range to comply with the New York state Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $81,325.15 - $103,635.00 Annually. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, specialty, education, and hospital need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.
