A key Optimus client is seeking a
Senior Derivative Accountant
to support complex accounting activities across trading and structured transactions. This role partners closely with finance leadership, trading, and risk teams to ensure accurate financial reporting and compliance with U.S. GAAP and IFRS. The position plays a critical role in end-to-end derivatives accounting across natural gas, power, and environmental markets.
Key Responsibilities
Lead end-to-end accounting for derivative transactions, including analysis, journal entries, and financial statement reporting
Partner cross-functionally with trading, risk, legal, and tax teams to assess accounting implications of complex and structured deals
Support month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes, including reconciliations, variance analysis, and reporting
Prepare technical accounting memos and maintain policies to ensure compliance with GAAP/IFRS and audit requirements
Required Experience / Skills
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting; CPA (or eligibility) required, with Big 4 or national public accounting experience strongly preferred
5+ years of accounting experience, including hands-on derivatives accounting within energy trading or commodities markets
Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP; IFRS experience is a plus, particularly related to derivatives, revenue recognition, and leases
Advanced Excel skills and experience with ERP systems and trading platforms; ability to operate autonomously in a fast-paced environment
