Industrial Maintenance Mechanic - West Point

King County, Seattle, WA, United States


About the Role:
Working as part of a team, this person will apply maintenance experience to perform high‑level repairs on rotating mechanical equipment, including biosolids decanting blowers, influent and effluent pumps, biogas scrubbing compressors, gearboxes, conveyance systems, and multiple piping systems. The ideal candidate is goal‑oriented and contributes to a safe, collaborative, and positive work environment, supporting a team culture focused on effective communication and high standards of workmanship.

What You Will Be Doing:

Perform maintenance, repair, and overhaul of complex mechanical machinery including pumps, motors, grinders, blowers, compressors, centrifuges, gearboxes, hydraulic systems, and gravity belt thickeners independently or with minimal guidance.

Install, maintain, and repair large plumbing and piping systems used in a wastewater treatment facility, ensuring compliance with safety and operational standards.

Fabricate, modify, and repair plant piping and other heavy equipment using welding equipment, cutting torches, and plasma cutters; contribute to design improvements when appropriate.

Safely operate a variety of hand, power, and pneumatic tools, including grinders, drill motors, drill presses, band saws, ironworkers, table saws, and hydraulic presses, applying expert knowledge of proper techniques and shop practices.

Lead or mentor less experienced mechanics or helpers, providing guidance and support on complex tasks and troubleshooting.

Perform other duties as assigned, supporting overall reliability and safety of plant operations.

Qualifications You Bring:

Extensive knowledge of the safe use, care, and operation of hand, power, and pneumatic tools and specialized shop equipment for mechanical maintenance and repair.

Strong knowledge of plumbing techniques and principles, including installation, maintenance, and repair of large‑scale wastewater facility piping systems.

Proficient knowledge of welding techniques (MIG, TIG, stick welding) and cutting/fabrication for heavy equipment and plant piping; comprehensive understanding of pumps and pumping systems, including motor components, controls, troubleshooting, and routine maintenance for multiple pump types.

Skill in reading and interpreting mechanical drawings, schematics, manuals, and technical instructions; ability to prepare clear written and oral documentation of work performed.

Knowledge and experience with rigging, hoisting, and safe operation of overhead cranes and lifting devices for moving heavy equipment.

Ability to lead or mentor less experienced mechanics or helpers, providing guidance on complex mechanical tasks and troubleshooting techniques.

Physical Requirements:

Flexibility to work varied hours and report during adverse or inclement weather conditions.

Perform field and shop work at the wastewater treatment plant and associated facilities; lifting and carrying equipment and materials up to 50 pounds; climbing ladders; working in confined spaces.

Operate heavy machinery, rigging, and power tools; work around high noise levels, noxious odors, and potentially slippery or uneven surfaces.

Performs physically demanding tasks for extended periods, including standing, bending, kneeling, and reaching while completing maintenance, repair, and installation work.

Workplace Exposure:

Work performed outdoors and indoors in an industrial wastewater environment under all weather conditions.

Regular exposure to chemicals, biohazards, and high noise levels.

Entry into confined spaces and use of appropriate personal protective equipment, including respirators, as needed.

Must follow safety protocols to minimize exposure to potential hazards while performing maintenance, repair, and operational tasks.

Work Schedule:

Full‑time position, 40‑hour work week. Overtime eligible under the Fair Labor Standards Act.
