Job Purpose

The basic functions of the Assistant Warehouse Manager position include managing daily warehouse operations on the designated shift, scheduling warehouse worker hours, inbound and outbound loading, inventory control, maintenance of warehouse equipment, and warehouse housekeeping.

Responsibilities

Ensure the facility performs yard checks, including checking all trailers in dock doors and in yard for empties and loads.
Maintain yard to ensure no trailers block movement for others.
Ensure all paperwork from the previous day’s work is complete and distributed to proper departments.
Oversee loading/unloading of all carriers.
Ensure trailers are emptied and available for local drivers.
Conduct periodic dock safety checks.
Track warehouse customer inventory by computer and perform physical inventory counts.
Ensure timely processing of warehouse customer orders, bill preparation, and inventory control.
Oversee picking of orders from the warehouse and staging or loading of orders.
Ensure proper scheduling of carriers to pick up warehouse customer orders as directed by customers.
Manage warehouse personnel, scheduling work hours, personnel issues, performance reviews, and disciplinary actions.
Ensure training of forklift operators on procedures for handling company freight and customer requirements.
Manage warehouse space and maximize usage of the warehouse layout.
Maintain a clean and organized warehouse and ensure food safety requirements are met.

Required Skills

Warehouse management experience with a background in Inventory Control Systems.
Solid experience in Excel, data entry, and general computer skills.
Experience managing a staff of 30+ employees across multiple shifts.
Ability to maintain a clean and orderly warehouse operation.
Good communication, leadership, and management abilities.
Budgeting, interpersonal, motivational and goal-setting skills.
Ability to define and resolve problems and effectively communicate with customers and managers.
Strong organizational and scheduling skills.
Computer skills including Word, Excel (spreadsheet), PowerPoint, and ability to learn company software.

Additional Skills

Sense of urgency, accountability, and the ability to work with limited supervision.
Team player with strong collaboration skills.
Proficiency in reading, writing, and understanding English.
Attention to detail and quality.
Flexibility to work overtime or cover other shifts when needed.
Ability to work in a fast-paced warehouse environment.

Qualifications

Three to five years of management experience.
Experience in Warehousing Management.

Education

College degree preferred or extensive background in transportation/warehouse management.

Language Skills

Must be able to communicate, read, write, and speak English.
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business materials and prepare reports and correspondence.

Mathematical and Reasoning Skills

Ability to perform basic arithmetic and interpret data, rate, ratio, percent, and graphs. Ability to analyze situations and determine root causes and corrective actions.

Physical Demands

Occasionally lift and/or move up to 60 pounds.
On feet for the full shift (8 hours) and able to work overtime when required.

Work Environment

Exposure to moving mechanical parts and fumes or airborne particles; noise level ranges from quiet to moderately loud.
