
Nursing Attendant - MedSurg Float Day Shift

Position Summary
NYU Langone Hospital‑Brooklyn is a Level I trauma center. We are seeking a Nursing Attendant – MedSurg Float Day Shift to assist in patient care under RN supervision.
Job Responsibilities
Assist with admission, transfer and discharge of patients, orating them to the hospital environment, providing toileting supplies, escorting them and remaining until they leave.
Conduct patient rounds for toileting, positioning, comfort, safety and personal needs; answer call lights promptly.
Assemble oxygen and suction sets.
Provide basic hygiene: bathing, AM/PM care, mouth care, denture care, hair care, nail and foot care, shaving and assist with bedpan, urinal or commode.
Prepare patients for meals, clear over‑bed tables, position them correctly and feed.
Assist with and perform simple treatments; reapply wound wraps, assist during enemas.
Collect specimens as directed by RN.
Inform RN of audible clinical alarms (IV pumps, feeding pumps, ventilators, bedside monitors).
Assist with moving, lifting, positioning and transporting patients.
Assist with removal and security of patient personal items prior to procedures.
Change linens per policy.
Record vital signs electronically (BP, temperature, pulse, pulse oximetry, respiration) and report abnormalities.
Weigh patients and record weights.
Record oral intake, urinary output, bowel elimination, gastric and other drainage; calculate 8‑hour totals and empty drainage bags.
Perform post‑mortem care.
Conduct safety observations for patients on continuous observation or in restraints per policy.
Report changes in patient’s condition to RN.
Respond promptly to patient/family needs, establish caring relationships, and provide compassion.
Maintain competence through in‑service and educational programs.
Attend staff meetings and review minutes; maintain a safe, uncluttered environment in patient rooms.
Assist with supply and equipment management per department standards.
Maintain cleanliness of utility rooms and pantries.
Perform other duties such as errands, assisting other units, delivering stretchers and supporting the health team.
Perform duties aligned with the organization’s mission and values.
Minimum Qualifications
• High School Diploma or equivalent.
Graduate of a certified nursing attendant program or minimum six months relevant experience.
BLS or Heartsaver CPR/AED certification (AHA), required upon entry.
• Working knowledge of English in verbal, reading and writing. Other languages are an asset. • Strong customer service and communication skills.
Required Licenses
Basic Life Support Certificate.
