Position
Patient Care Technician/Senior Nursing Attendant - MedSurg Float Evening Shift.
Responsibilities
Support the professional nurse in patient and family care by completing assigned tasks and providing safe, compassionate care.
Assist with maintenance and safety of supplies, equipment, and the patient care environment.
Demonstrate NYU Langone Health Core Values in job performance.
Assist in data collection for unit quality and performance improvement programs.
Support the nurse in reviewing corrective action plans regarding patient/family responses and satisfaction.
Acknowledge own limitations and seek assistance when needed.
Communicate educational concerns and goals with the Nurse Manager or leadership; pursue identified learning needs.
Participate in orientation for other patient care technicians and attend unit meetings and conferences.
Complete annual mandatory education requirements for patient care technicians.
Display awareness of the needs and behaviors of specific patient age groups and cultures.
Support unit activities and emergency situations as directed; use specialized skills and safety when performing assigned tasks (e.g., phlebotomy, fingersticks for glucose, ECGs).
Demonstrate infection prevention and control standards.
Assist with admission, transfer, and discharge procedures as per unit operations.
Provide responsive communication with patients, families, and staff; report patient requests outside the technician role to the professional nurse.
Ensure security of patient personal property and maintain unit cleanliness and orderliness.
Ensure necessary equipment and supplies are present in patient rooms and on the unit.
Minimum Qualifications
Patient Care Technician : High School graduate or equivalent required. Graduate of a PCT program with at least 6 months hospital experience, or CNA graduate with course in EKG & Phlebotomy and PCT certification eligible with at least 6 months hospital experience, or PCT Certification through NHA with at least 6 months hospital experience. BLS/CPR certification required. Must complete PCT online program within 3 months of hire.
Senior Nursing Attendant : High School Diploma or equivalent required. Graduate of Certified Nursing Attendant Program, CNA certified with at least 6 months relevant experience. BLS/CPR certification required upon entry. Competencies: English proficiency; strong customer service and communication skills.
Required Licenses
Basic Life Support (BLS).
