Full Time Nights
Assists nursing service personnel with a variety of patient care activities and related services necessary for caring for the personal needs and comfort of patients. Duties include personal hygiene, taking vital signs, changing bed linens, serving and collecting food trays, providing nourishment, cleaning, sterilizing, storing and preparing supplies, and general patient support. Requires knowledge of commonly used concepts, practices, and procedures within a particular field.
Responsibilities
Under RN supervision, demonstrate knowledge of care, differentiate abnormal conditions, and accurately document vital signs, intake and output, reporting deviations to the nurse in a timely manner.
Perform all responsibilities/duties required under the defined scope of service, addressing the unique nature of each client, including age considerations.
Institute and initiate a plan of care based on initial assessment, documenting, implementing, evaluating interventions, and reassessing patient needs continuously per unit or procedure.
Prepare units, patient rooms, and beds for admissions, transfers, and discharges.
Provide specialized care for patients with ostomy, diabetes, impaired skin integrity, bariatric conditions, geriatric needs, and infants, including peri‑care, hygiene, and nutrition.
Initiate fall protocol for all patients and assist with placement of arm bands and appropriate safety equipment.
Maintain a clutter‑free work area and keep equipment in working condition, keeping utility and equipment rooms clean.
Demonstrate knowledge of medical equipment usage (e.g., sequential compression device, bedside commode, bladder scanner, mobility devices) and report problems to the charge nurse.
Recognize changing patient conditions and modify plans using resources, the chain of command, and Rapid Response Team (RRT) promptly and appropriately.
Conduct patient rounds and address concerns in a timely manner.
Assist patients with activities of daily living, hygiene, feeding, and distribution of water and ice.
Perform routine treatment procedures, including heat/cold sitz baths and postmortem care per policy.
Operate equipment safely, using proper body mechanics and personal protective equipment.
Handle supplies correctly, removing and charging them consistently.
Adhere to privacy and maintain confidentiality of all hospital and patient information at all times.
Appropriately document patient‑specific information and elevate identified problems to the care team.
Coordinate and collaborate with multidisciplinary team members to plan and manage patient care, maintaining high productivity.
Respond to patients and families coping with unanticipated treatment, quality‑of‑life, and end‑of‑life decisions.
Monitor and allocate patient care services, recognizing the fiduciary role in a resource‑intensive environment.
Promote professional standards with a proactive approach and participate in performance improvement, in‑services, committees, and staff meetings.
Serve as a role model for compassionate care, supporting the hospital’s mission and vision.
Facilitate problem resolution and team collaboration, displaying a positive attitude and assisting leadership by mentoring new staff and acting as a preceptor.
Serve as a resource, anticipating others’ needs and offering assistance, constructive feedback, and productive suggestions.
Qualifications
Minimum Education: High School Diploma or GED.
Minimum Experience: None required (preferred: acute care and/or previous clinical experience).
Required Certifications:
Current Healthcare Provider Basic Life Support (American Red Cross or American Heart Association). If certified by the American Red Cross, must obtain American Heart Association certification within 60 days of hire.
Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) certification within 90 days of hire or transfer.
Required Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities:
Ability to use computer‑driven patient care equipment.
Prior experience in clerical or customer‑service duties in a clinical setting.
Skill in caring for patients with special needs (ostomy, diabetes, impaired skin, bariatric, geriatric, infants).
Knowledge of medical equipment and ability to maintain equipment integrity.
Adaptability to rapidly changing patient conditions and use of Rapid Response Team.
Strong communication, documentation, and confidentiality skills.
Team‑collaboration and multidisciplinary coordination.
Professional attitude, problem‑solving, and commitment to quality care.
