
Speech Language Pathologist

Job Description
The Staff Speech Language Pathologist (Speech Pathologist 2) will support patients in both Head and Neck Surgical Oncology (HN) and the Voice and Swallowing Center (VSC). The role reports to the Rehab Service Manager and provides direct and indirect patient care services. The staff member works primarily with adult and geriatric patients from diverse socioeconomic and cultural backgrounds, with the capacity to treat pediatric and adolescent patients. Under general direction and written referrals, the staff member plans and administers evaluation, intervention and program development for voice, swallowing and upper airway impairments. The staff maintains all applicable patient records related to care services. They may also supervise support personnel, student interns and Speech Language Pathology Clinical Fellows and actively participate in departmental and organizational programs, including performance improvement, clinical education and staff development activities.
Qualifications
Possession of a degree in Speech Language Pathology from an accredited professional educational program.
Minimum of 12 months experience as a licensed therapist.
Ability to communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing.
Ability to recognize signs of distress.
Possession of or proven eligibility for CPR certification.
Basic computer skills in word processing and online communication.
Good interpersonal, time management, problem solving and self-initiation skills.
Demonstrated training and/or experience in voice, swallowing and/or upper airway disorders.
Prior training and/or experience with instrumental assessment of voice, swallowing and/or upper airway (stroboscopy, laryngeal function studies, modified barium swallow study, flexible endoscopic evaluation of swallowing).
Preferred Qualifications
Prior speech language pathology experience in an academic medical center environment.
Prior experience working on an interdisciplinary health provider team.
Experience with professional and performing voice including singing.
Experience with gender affirming voice care.
Experience with Head and Neck Cancer patients.
License/Certification
Possession of or proven eligibility for licensure as a Speech Language Pathologist by the Speech–Language Pathology and Audiology Board of California.
