Work Shift: Third (Nights) – 7 p.m. to 7 a.m., rotating weekends.

About the Unit
The Surgical Short Stay Observation Unit is an 18‑bed department that provides observation, post‑procedural monitoring, and short‑term treatments, including TIA workups, stress tests, and radiology procedures. Patients typically stay two days. Registered nurses handle 6‑8 discharges per shift with a nurse‑to‑patient ratio of 1:5 to 1:6. The unit is supported by unit coordinators, educators, a nurse manager, and PCT staff.

Responsibilities
The RN provides competent nursing care employing the nursing process (assessment, diagnosis, outcomes identification, planning, implementation, coordination of care, teaching, health promotion, and evaluation). The RN meets standards of practice and professional performance in ethics, culturally congruent practice, communication, collaboration, leadership, education, evidence‑based practice, quality, resource utilization and environmental health.
Education
Students in process of obtaining Registered Nursing degree or diploma.
Registered Nursing degree or diploma (required).
Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or Master’s (MSN) preferred.
Certification & Licensure
Students in process of obtaining RN licensure.
RN license (required).
BLS required within 90 days of hire.
Experience
No experience required.
1 year of acute care preferred.
Previous healthcare experience preferred.
