Overview
Sentara Obici Hospital is seeking a Registered Nurse (RN) to join our Surgical Short Stay (SSU) Observation Unit in Suffolk, VA. This is a full‑time night shift position (7p‑7a with rotating weekends) in a 18‑bed unit that specializes in observation, post‑procedural monitoring, and short‑term treatments. A sign‑on bonus of up to $20,000 is available for qualified candidates.
Work Shift
Third (Nights). Hours: 7p to 7a with rotating weekends.
About the Unit
Observation/Short Stay Unit with a maximum stay of typically two days per patient.
RNs can expect 6–8 patient discharges per shift, with a nurse‑to‑patient ratio of approximately 1:5 to 1:6.
The unit is supported by unit coordinators, educators, a nurse manager, and PCTs.
Ideal for new graduates and experienced RNs looking to expand skills.

Responsibilities
The RN is responsible for providing competent nursing care following the nursing process—assessment, diagnosis, outcomes identification, planning, implementation, coordination of care, teaching, health promotion, and evaluation—while adhering to standards of professional practice and ethics.
Education
Students in process of obtaining a Degree or Diploma in Registered Nursing.
Degree or Diploma in Registered Nursing (required).
Bachelor of Science Nursing (BSN) or MSN (preferred).
Certification / Licensure
Students in process of obtaining Registered Nursing licensure.
Registered Nursing license (required).
BLS required within 90 days of hire.
Experience
No prior experience required.
One year of acute care experience preferred.
Previous healthcare experience preferred.
