Role Overview
The Lead Respiratory Therapist oversees all respiratory operations within the ICU, ensuring high‑quality clinical care, maintaining strict adherence to hospital and regulatory protocols, and coordinating the technical and educational needs of the ICU respiratory team.

Job Overview
The Lead/Charge Therapist is responsible for assigning staff to various care areas, for addressing clinical and operational situations as they arise, and for maintaining department performance standards. They report performance and behavioral issues, liaise with the Nursing Department and medical staff, and provide clinical patient care as needed.

Qualifications
Required:

Active NJ Respiratory Therapist (RT) License

Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association

Preferred:

Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS)

Adult Critical Care Certification (ACCS)

Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)

Scheduling Requirements

Full‑time (Monday‑Friday, 7:00 AM–3:00 PM)

Must participate in alternating weekend and holiday rotation as needed

Essential Functions

Assist the Department Educator in orientation of new employees; demonstrate and observe procedures to ensure understanding.

Complete chart reviews, QA/PI reviews and other assigned tasks in a timely manner.

Participate in planning for department services; accept assigned tasks and obtain results.

Effectively address clinical and operational issues as they arise.

Encourage and complete inter‑ and intra‑shift communication using identified processes.

Provide a compassionate and supportive environment with prompt and consistent service.

Adhere to patient rights by ensuring confidential treatment of all communications and records.

Demonstrate professionalism with families, visitors, physicians, co‑workers and supervisors.

Listen and communicate effectively.

Support teamwork through cooperative problem solving in meetings, projects, etc.

Utilize principles of continuous quality improvement to assess, measure and improve organizational and department functions.

Organize work sets and prioritize with minimal supervision; seek guidance as appropriate.

Make decisions that are timely and consistent with department objectives, policies and procedures.
