Job Overview

Under the supervision of a licensed independent practitioner, the Orthopedic Tech applies casts, splints and other DME to the Orthopedic patient population in an outpatient setting. This role provides patient/family teaching to a wide variety of patients with varying educational levels and orders and maintains supplies in the cast room.
Responsibilities

Applies casts, splints and other DME to orthopedic patients.
Provides patient/family teaching across educational levels.
Orders and maintains supplies in the cast room.
Functions under direction of a licensed independent practitioner in patient care related to casts, splints and wound care.
Requires supervisor guidance for schedule changes, legal issues and deviations from standard care.
Qualifications

Licensure/Certification: Orthopedic Technician Certified (OTC) by the National Board for Certification of Orthopaedic Technologist (NBCOT) preferred. BLS certification required. Current/active OTC certification preferred for continued employment.
Experience: Previous experience in the outpatient clinical setting preferred; Experience required: N/A.
Education: High school diploma or GED required; N/A preferred.
Independent action: Functions under direction of licensed independent practitioner; Requires prior approval or guidance from supervisor regarding schedule changes, legal issues, direct care deviations and educational resources.

Physical: Lifting greater than 100 lbs.
Other: Exposure to potentially hazardous and infectious substances.
Activities: Prolonged standing, frequent bending, walking (distance), climbing (steps, ladder, other), reaching (overhead, extensive, repetitive).
Mental/Sensory: Problem solving, hearing, speak clearly, write legibly, reading, logical thinking.
Emotional: Fast‑pace environment, steady pace, handle multiple priorities, frequent intense customer interactions, noisy environment, adapt to frequent changes.
