Maintenance Electrician

Job Summary
This position is responsible for maintaining automation systems and machinery used in production, including troubleshooting, program changes, repairs, and PLC programming for process control systems, PLCs, servo controls, and ladder logic. The role ensures safety and product quality of the production line.

Essential Functions / Job Duties

Knowledge of PLC software and ability to connect a laptop computer to PLCs and peripheral devices.

Basic programming of PLCs, VFDs, servo drives, and HMIs.

Access and troubleshoot equipment using the laptop and PLC program.

Work with PLCs and control devices from manufacturers such as Allen Bradley, Mitsubishi, or Omron; proficiency with at least one manufacturer is required.

Tune, adjust, and reprogram control devices to maintain proper process operation.

Create simple circuit schematics for adding devices to equipment and keep maintenance schematics up to date when modifications are performed.

Assist in implementing automated industrial assembly machines and production lines utilizing robotics, linear motion components, and conveyors.

Perform equipment modifications to maintain optimal performance and production efficiencies.

Repair breakdowns in electrical machinery.

Use a computerized maintenance work order system for work orders, PMs, and parts ordering.

Complete preventative maintenance checks and perform scheduled and unscheduled repairs.

Collaborate with contractors and vendors on special projects across departments.

Construct parts and equipment from raw materials following blueprints.

Operate electrical equipment ranging from 5 VDC up to 480 V 3‑phase.

Work with other departments to improve production processes.

Maintain tools and keep them in good working order; perform cleaning tasks as assigned.

Attend safety, sanitation, production, and quality control meetings as required.

Follow manual instructions or contact the machine manufacturer when problems arise.

Perform additional tasks and duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities
None. The role may instruct others when troubleshooting is required.

Qualification Requirements
Education and/or Experience:

BS in Electrical, Mechanical, or Computer Engineering is desired; alternatively, at least five years of experience in a comparable position with high-volume, fully or semi-automatic mechanical assembly manufacturing. Robotic experience is helpful.

Language Skills:

Excellent communicator; ability to read and interpret documents such as panel designs, bill of materials, wiring schematics, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write reports and correspondences and to speak effectively in front of vendors or employees.

Mathematical Skills:

Ability to perform basic arithmetic in all units of measure, calculate rates, ratios, and percentages, and interpret bar graphs.

Computer Skills:

Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and maintenance work order‑PM software; knowledge of AutoCAD is helpful.

Reasoning Ability:

Apply common sense to understand and carry out detailed written or oral instructions. Resolve simple problems involving few concrete variables in standardized situations. Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills and a fast learning ability.

Physical Demands

Stand/Walk: Approximately 6 hours per shift on concrete.

Sitting: During lunch and break; stools available if work takes place in the maintenance shop.

Carry/Lift: Frequent light lifting ( Pulling: Infrequent; use provided carts for heavy equipment.

Bending/Stooping: Frequent while working along the production line or at the workbench.

Reach: Infrequent; may require overhead or forward reach depending on the project.

Climbing: Infrequent; may need to climb a ladder for ceiling conduit; mechanical lift available for high work in production area.

Kneeling/Crawling: Infrequent; depends on project along the production line.

Repetitive leg/arm movement: Infrequent to never.

Work Environment

Manufacturing environment with temperature variations.

Near moving mechanical machinery and equipment.

Exposed to fumes, airborne particles, and vibration.

Work in high or precarious places is occasional.
