Engineering Technician III (Seawatch)

Akima Systems Engineering is seeking a highly skilled and disciplined Engineering Technician III to support maritime and systems engineering installations for the SeaWatch v4.0 program. The successful candidate will be responsible for the physical installation, integration, and testing of complex electronic systems onboard USCG WMEC-210 class cutters. This role requires strict adherence to Technical Control Orders (TCTOs), Engineering Changes (ECs), and military standards for cabling and hardware integration.

Responsibilities

System Installation: Execute the installation of SeaWatch v4.0 software suites, servers, clients, network switches, and KVM extenders in accordance with TCTO TG0070.0.

Technical Execution: Interpret and implement draft and finalized engineering drawings (e.g., 618-WMEC-410-003/004) with zero margin for error in cable numbering and component placement.

Cable Fabrication & Management: Fabricate, route, and terminate over 1,000 feet of specialized cabling per vessel, including shielded CAT-5E, mini high-res video cables, and power cables (LS3SJ-12, LSTSGU-9).

Hardware Integration: Install and configure peripheral hardware including DVI-D to CAT5 extenders, video distribution amplifiers, DIN rails, and junction boxes.

Testing & Quality Assurance: Conduct continuity checks and system-level testing to ensure all installations meet C5ISC and SFLC performance requirements.

Documentation: Maintain accurate, real-time records of installation progress, material consumption (IAFE/JAFE), and technical discrepancies for project leadership.

Qualifications

Experience: Minimum of 4–6 years of experience in electronics or systems engineering, specifically within a maritime or DoD environment.

Technical Proficiency: Demonstrated ability to read and interpret complex schematics, wiring diagrams, and Technical Orders.

Standards Compliance: Expertise in MIL-STD-2003 (Cabling), MIL-STD-1310 (Shipboard Bonding/Grounding), and standard electrical shop practices.

Physical Requirements: Ability to work in confined shipboard spaces, climb ladders, and lift up to 50 lbs.

Security Clearance: Must possess and maintain an active DoD Secret Clearance.

Travel: Ability to support surge requirements at various USCG industrial sites as dictated by the installation schedule.

Desired Qualifications

Prior experience with USCG C5I systems or SeaWatch legacy versions.

U.S. Navy or Coast Guard veteran background (ET, FC, or EM ratings).
