Overview
The JC Raulston Arboretum is a nationally acclaimed garden with one of the largest and most varied collections of landscape plants adapted for use in the Southeast. Plants collected and evaluated here are used to find superior plants for southern landscapes. This paid summer internship gives students hands‑on experience while enjoying the Arboretum’s gardens.
Internship Details
Duration:
May 18 – August 7 2026
Work Schedule:
32‑40 hours per week, Monday‑Friday, with occasional weekend work
Eligibility:
Full‑time undergraduate student at a 2‑year or 4‑year college, preferably majoring in horticulture, landscape design, botany or another plant‑related science. Students graduating Spring 2025 are eligible.

Responsibilities
Assist the Arboretum staff and volunteers with everyday maintenance tasks, including but not limited to:
Planting, pruning, fertilizing and weeding the garden.
Operating garden equipment safely under varying weather conditions.
Maintaining accurate records of plant inventories and activities.
Supporting educational programs for visitors, students and the public.
Requirements & Qualifications
Experience or coursework in landscape maintenance, greenhouse, nursery, estate management or public horticulture.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills and solid interpersonal skills.
Ability to work cooperatively with Arboretum staff, volunteers, members and visitors.
Physical ability to lift heavy materials (30lb) and move freely on uneven and wet ground.
Ability to follow instructions, use safety practices and pass a background check.
CPR/First Aid certification or ability to obtain certification.
Valid driver’s license.
Preferred
Experience in a greenhouse or garden center, or coursework in botany or other plant sciences.
Compensation
15 dollars per hour.
