Behavioral Technician

Position Summary
The Behavioral Technician performs direct and indirect patient care functions under the supervision of appropriately licensed personnel. The Technician assists patients with personal care needs, participates in the plan of care, regularly communicates observations and data collection to the appropriate caretaker, and collects test specimens as directed according to established procedures. The Technician assists customers in a friendly, prompt, caring manner, maintaining confidentiality and respect, working as part of the care team to meet customer needs and support team objectives, and assisting other team members when necessary.

Qualifications

Education: High School degree or equivalent; Associate’s degree preferred.

Language: Ability to read, speak, and write English; bilingual preferred.

Certification: BLSHCP certified within six months of hire.

Training: CPI (Crisis Prevention Intervention) training required within 1 year of hire (or until 10/31/25 for existing employees).

Experience: 1-3 years patient care preferred; knowledge of medical terminology; interpersonal skills to communicate and collaborate with team members; ability to be flexible, set priorities, solve problems, and use proper judgment.

Skills: Proficiency in Clinical Applications preferred at time of hire; training and skill required within 30-60 days of hire.

Performance Expectations
Demonstrates the ability to perform the department-specific competencies as listed on the Assessment and Evaluation Tool.

Work Environment

Exposure to hazards and risk of the hospital environment, including infectious disease, blood-borne pathogens, hazardous substances, and potential injury.

Physical requirements: reaching, stooping, kneeling, crouching approximately 25% of a workday; visual and physical ability to work at a computer terminal; standing and walking approximately 50% of a workday; lifting 50–100 pounds frequently with assistance occasionally; pushing, pulling or transporting equipment and patients.

This position reports to nursing unit leadership.
