Palmer-Donavin is a leading distributor of building materials serving customers throughout the Midwest and Southeast. Our day shift operation is critical to the success of our warehouse, ensuring materials are received, stored, and prepared accurately to support both internal operations and customer demand.
The Day Shift Supervisor is responsible for leading the warehouse day shift operation, overseeing all inbound and internal material movement including receiving purchase orders, transfers, will-calls, and staging product for outbound distribution.
This role manages daily workflow, assigns tasks, and drives the performance and development of the day shift team. The supervisor works closely with operations leadership and cross‑functional teams to resolve issues, maintain safety standards, and ensure efficient warehouse operations.
This position is a hands‑on working supervisor role, actively supporting the team on the warehouse floor while directing workflow, maintaining operational standards, and driving accountability for results.
The day shift plays a critical role in ensuring product accuracy, inventory integrity, and operational readiness to support Palmer‑Donavin’s commitment to delivering outstanding service to our customers.
Shift: Monday – Friday, 7:00 AM – 3:30 PM (overtime as business requires)
Key Responsibilities
Lead daily inbound warehouse operations including receiving, staging, and internal material transfers
Oversee purchase order receiving to ensure materials are accurate, properly documented, and damage‑free
Assign and prioritize work based on daily inbound and outbound workload
Lead daily startup meetings to review safety topics, prior day errors, KPI performance, and daily workload
Assist employees with receiving, unloading, pulling, and staging material as needed to meet operational demands
Monitor workflow and adjust staffing or task assignments to maintain efficiency and productivity
Ensure will‑call orders are pulled accurately and within expected time standards
Oversee UPS inbound and outbound processing and ensure adherence to standard procedures
Conduct routine warehouse inspections to maintain organization, cleanliness, and safety standards
Troubleshoot operational issues and coordinate with sales, purchasing, and operations teams to resolve problems
Monitor team performance and coach employees to meet productivity, quality, and attendance expectations
Supervise, train, and develop warehouse employees to build a reliable and high‑performing team
Support hiring and onboarding efforts, including interviewing candidates and assisting with new employee training
Enforce company safety policies, lead daily safety discussions, and investigate accidents or safety incidents
Manage timecards, attendance, and labor hours to maintain payroll efficiency and control overtime
Maintain communication with operations leadership and participate in meetings to support operational performance and continuous improvement
Qualifications
High School Graduate or General Education Degree (GED)
1+ years of experience in a leadership or supervisory role
Previous warehouse, distribution, or operations experience preferred
Requirements
Satisfactory criminal history check
