Overview
Riverside Healthcare is seeking a skilled and dedicated Registered Nurse (RN) to join our acute care team in Kankakee, Illinois. The RN will provide high‑quality, compassionate care to patients undergoing various treatments. This role involves assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating patient care in a fast‑paced environment. Responsibilities
Conduct comprehensive assessments of patients' physical, emotional, and psychological needs and develop individualized care plans in collaboration with patients, families, and the healthcare team.
Administer medications, treatments, and procedures within scope as ordered by a provider and monitor patient responses, adjusting care plans as necessary.
Continuously monitor patients' vital signs, physical condition, and response to interventions, documenting all observations accurately and promptly.
Collaborate with physicians and other healthcare professionals to coordinate patient care, manage treatment plans, and participate in interdisciplinary team meetings, including discharge planning.
Educate patients and families about medical conditions, treatments, medication options, and post‑discharge care, taking into account culture and age.
Maintain accurate and detailed documentation of assessments, interventions, and outcomes in compliance with regulatory and hospital standards.
Engage patients and families in a manner that promotes comfort, trust, and understanding, addressing concerns with empathy and professionalism to foster a positive environment.
Support a collaborative work environment by providing constructive feedback and assisting peers and new staff members.
Respond promptly and effectively to medical emergencies, including life‑saving procedures and patient stabilization.
Adhere to infection control protocols and implement standard precautions to minimize the spread of infections.
Complete required continuing education hours related to acute stroke care and maintain annual education requirements for hospital‑based certifications such as DNV CARF.
Participate in ongoing professional development, quality improvement initiatives, evidence‑based practice, and research as applicable.
Assist in the orientation and training of new staff members and students.
Preferred Experience
Minimum of two years of acute care nursing experience.
Required Licensure and Education
Graduate of an approved school of nursing.
Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of Illinois.
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
For pediatric units: PALS certification within one year of hire.
For intensive care and intermediate care units: Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification within one year of hire.
New Graduate RNs hired on or after 1/1/25 must earn a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) within three years of the start date.
Preferred Education and Certifications
Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree preferred.
Professional nursing certification in area of specialty preferred.
Basic ECG recognition skills preferred.
Physical and Safety Requirements
Work involves a mix of sitting (10%), standing (40%), walking (25%), and lifting (10%) with frequent exposure to chemicals, blood, body fluids, and potential airborne pathogens.
Capacity to lift up to 35 lbs frequently and up to 60 lbs occasionally.
Must wear appropriate protective equipment when necessary, including gloves, gowns, masks, and goggles for chemotherapy or isolation settings.
Ability to perform tasks that require fine manipulation, such as typing, charting, drawing up medications, and IV initiation.
Pay Range
USD $33.51 – $42.74 per hour
